The way I do it is view the person's public profile. They have a link there "add ______ to your ignore list" then it'll take you to another screen in which you confirm. The buddy list works in the same fashion

That is correct. However adding someone to your ignore list will only prevent you from reading their posts. It will not prevent them from contacting you, or vice versa.

Thats true, but if they contact you it will show that they are on your ignore list and you can delete the pm without even seeing the heading or opening it up.

Yeah, if you're being harassed or something just ignore them. Resist the urge to scream at them to fuck off. That just confirms to them that they're getting to you and they'll just keep at it.
