...there's a good one on MSNBC today.

It's an account of the Arctic voyage of the Karluk in 1913, in which the vessel and its crew of 25 wound up trapped in pack ice for several months before being crushed to matchwood, leaving the crew stranded on the ice.

The story, linked below, stops part way through and asks what'd you would do.

It's an interesting tale of the sea, one I've heard and read about in greater detail many times before, as the captain of the Karluk, famous Newfoundland seas captain Bob Bartlett, was a friend of my paternal grandfather.

Here's the link:

Bartlett's last and best known schooner, the Morrissey, is a US National Historic Landmark and is berthed in Bedford, Ma.

Here's a link to the story of the Morrissey:

Thanks for the heads up, Lance. I shall try to check it out. I love (Ant)Arctic adventure tales. It's pretty much the ultimate "man vs. nature" conflict.

Ever read Voyage of the Narwhal by Andrea Barrett? Highly recommended.

No, I haven't read that one, T...I'll look for it.

Likewise, if you've not read Death On The Ice by Cassie Brown, it's a good read, being the true story of seal hunters separated from their ship by pack ice.

I have a couple of spoilers , but it's good to hear you found a way to survive!

If just one time I could sail the northwest passage,
just one time through a land so white and savage.
If just one time I could sail the northwest passage,
and see the hand of Franklin reaching to the Barents sea.
