If You Had To Go To War, Who From AH Would You Want As A Comrade, And Who Not?

This thread may go nowhere, but the thought came to me the other day. If I had to go into battle, there are people who I would trust implicitly to fight alongside me and there are others I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw 'em.

People who I believe would be good comrades:

Black Shanglan
Stella Omega
Flavortang
Cloudy
Rob Graham
Recidiva

There are others, but these are my starting list.

I'm much obliged. My list would look much like yours, although I don't happen to know Flavortang very well. I'd add a host of others - I'm just leery of starting a list because my memory is dreadful and I'm sure to offend someone whom I accidentally leave off. *chuckle*

I do know that I want Bluebell and English Lady running the infirmary and CharleyH as the grinning, cigarette-smoking leader of the bayonet charge. Stella and Cloudy, of course, would lead the cavalry bridgade. :D Rob would be the commander and strategist, because he cares deeply about his troops and would never order a sacrifice he wouldn't make himself. Carson would be in charge of the K-9 patrol group and back-of-lines security and morale, because he's a precious resource we can't be throwing into open battle. The SO would be our artillery support, and the rest of us (legion in number of course) would probably just laze around marvelling at the capacity of the rest. ;)

You're all nuts! SeaCat is the only person here I'd want or need. He can do everything!

You think I've got a good bedside manner, eh horsey? *grins* I'm flattered.

I'm not one giving this much thought but people I'd immediately think of to have in my corner are

Joe Wordsworth - He's good in a fight, and he doesn't give up easily!
zade - She always fights my corner ;)
Horsey (you need a horsey in battle, right?)
Ogg -I mean he's a king, or least he's played one, always good to have a king on your side :p
vana -she'd seduce the opposition *grins* Oh and Fem would do that too!
Abs-you all know why, she could kill folks with her sarcasm from over a mile away!

:D :D

Yaaay! I made a list.

Most of mine would come from my bad cybersex thread. Have bad sex with folks for a year or so, you get to know they will have your back. So to speak.

ABSTRUSE - In charge of making weapons, including fun venoms and caltrops.

Cloudy - In charge of tactics. When she tells you to charge, you WILL charge, damn you.

Salvor_Hardon - In charge of psych ops. Especially kidnapping people from the other side and making them WANT to do things never dreamed. Occasionally with weasels.

Stella_Omega: I just like having her around. I'll pull her chariot. She will hopefully show up often enough to put out a "RECIDIVA'S ARMY" newsletter with helpful tips, recipes and obituaries.

Any and all volunteers, welcome. There is a place for all of you on my side.

I'm coming along to entertain the troops - Vera Lyn stylie.
Either that or in the canteen.

I'm quite flattered, Brute and Shang. Thank you.

Hmmm.

SeaCat, Shang, Brute, Loving Tongue, Weird Harold, Tx would be the ones I want with me. I know and trust them.

No ladies, but not because I don't trust them or because I don't believe they are capable of fighting and dying. I'm very old fashioned. In my beliefs, women are too precious to waste in something as stupid and horrible as war.

Guys are expendable. Women are not.

I'm assuming Shang is a guy for the purposes of this exercise. ;)

I like it!

Can I join you? I've got a set of twirly pasties around here somewhere.

(You gotta have a gimmick . . .)

Beat me to it, Sarah.

I came very close to killing my keyboard like Seacat just did.

At least it was coffee and not cat hairball.

Knowing me, if I'm going to war it's Special Ops. You don't want me on the front lines; I'd be complaining about how loud and noisy it is and isn't there a good restaurant anywhere nearby?

So. To end this war fast and without any collateral damage, I'll take Trom and ALL his transformers. That should do the job. I'll need Seacat to repair them and make the plans work. Shereads because she'll have all the dirt on the enemy and probably blackmail photographs of our allies so they won't back out.

Cloudy and Stella are always good to have there to say, "Bad idea. Baaaad idea!"

I wouldn't take Rob. I need him to take over if I blow it and have to escape in some secret, space ship Tranformer to another universe....Good Luck, Rob...and God Bless! :D

Lauren Hynde as a sniper.

She's sharp that way. Plus, it would be totally hawt.

I think I'd be in the field kitchen with Vella making good wholesome food out of almost nothing for the AH Batallion. I'd also be out there nagging at the opposition when I thought they'd stepped out of line. Wagging my finger, and 'how dare you speak to me that way, young man/woman. Get to your room. You're grounded.'. ;) ;)

Sorry, I've been to war and frankly it sucks.

As for taking anyone from here to war. No! I wouldn't want to put any of my friends in such a situation. I've lost to many friends that way in the past. Out of 76 guys who went in the Marines with me in 1966, only one of them besides me was alive by 1970.

Been there, done that. I'll pass this time, thank you.

I think I'm approaching this conversation topic differently than most. If I had to go to war and take some with me... war being "the submission of another country by force of arms, often through excessive destruction of infrastructure or military/civillian casualty"? Then I think I'd have to step very much outside the box of who I merely like around here and consider the implication of the mission.

Effectively, who would I trust--not to like me or love me or protect me--but follow orders and maintain an objective and driven rigor? Who would I not trust to shoot the guy or blow up the school or whatnot?

Well, given that, I like EL very much--but she's no soldier (sorry, doll). I can think of many "strong willed" or "clever" people here that I like or even don't who are not soldiers and I can't envision them being trusted to /be/ a soldier when the bullet comes down to it.

I would say, top pick for unit formation?

Bel, he seems to be in decent shape and he's aggressive without being reckless. He seems like he could take orders, that he could be relied on to carry out a duty.

Tolyk for similar reasons. I think despite being a little warmer, he can still be relied on to shoot the damn gun--that's trust when you're in the mud.

Liar is another pick. I think, though, moreso for communications. I can imagine that he'd be independant enough to maintain a seperate duty but able to take direction in its execution. And, I think he'd be a reliable soldier.

Pure, to some extent. I wouldn't want him above a squad leader position--like a second or first lieutenant--but he's clever and clear and would probably understand and more objectively relay and execute orders than others who are also clever and clear around here.

TxRad. I think he's gritty and realistic and could soldier.

SeaCat is a pick, but probably for a primarily non-combat duty. Maybe a medic. Someone clear headed who can attend multitasking, but not in a command position and nor in a primarily offensive position. I don't know that he'd pull the trigger without hesitating, but I think he'd scramble well.

That's a squad, for me. I think I trust myself (I /did/ go to military school for a while) in that mix as well. I can soldier. I'm not warm and fuzzy. I can pull the damn trigger.

There are people, for various reasons, I wouldn't pick.

EL, right off the bat, for the same reasons I would refuse to take Rob and a few others... they think with their hearts, and they feel very much for others. While that's handy in the squad, that's the first thing you have to unlearn in war. I think they'd hesitate. I think their being somewhat more emotional would wreak havoc on their performance and mental state.

Its war, afterall.

I'd trust Cloudy or Gauche or Amicus in non-military roles... but they're smart people, they're a bit iconoclastic, they're a mixture of bright and involved when a military operation demands bright and uninvolved. I don't need moral judgements or wacky logic or "causes" to get in the way of the missions.

I dunno...

...does that answer make sense.

TK, it was a long time ago and this thread is in fun. or at least I hope so. Although an invasion of the GB is long over due.
