Where there is a will there is a way. Standards of living would be much lower for many of us. Kiss 8-cylinder four wheel drive trucks and big screen TVs good bye. A complete redistribution of global wealth.

Does Mercury have exploitable resources? Robotic factories deep underground. Blasted out with nukes.

Look at the advances made in technology during WWII and the sacrifices made. Recycling of everything, food rationing, no new civilians vehicles produced. What could the US do with reallocating the budget that goes towards it's armed forces?

It would take sacrifices and even submission to the greater good.

Careful there Colonel, according to the latest poll giant meteors are gaining in popularity.

t's a simple reality that both of this year's Presidential candidates are unpopular. Clinton's favorability is 39/54, and Trump is even worse off at 35/58. This has given rise to the 'Giant Meteor for President' movement, and we find that the Meteor would poll at 13%- far more support than the third party candidates actually on the ballot- with Clinton at 43% and Trump at 38%. The Meteor is particularly appealing to independent voters, functionally in a three way tie at 27% to 35% for Clinton and 31% for Trump. Maybe that's who the Libertarians should have nominated.

If the rock is big enough underground or under the sea may not help. The planet WILL get hit. It is an inevitability. Its just a matter of time. If humans are to survive we must have self sustaining colonies off world.

Unless we implement global population controls we will over populate beyond this planets ability to support us. Resources will run out. Recycling will only get us so far.

War and starvation cycles may limit our population growth but that is not a very nice thought. 50% die offs periodically would be messy.

Considering the population of Africa, Europe would be helpless in the face of truly continental scale escape from worsening conditions. They could flood any attempt at stopping the flow.

Although by the time that might occur Europe may be in as bad a shape.

I'm talking long term survival of the human race. Not 100, 200 or 500 years but 1000 years or more. Which is far beyond terms anyone really things in in. And by the time we do, it may be too late.

There are whole asteroids out there of gold, platinum, iridium, nickel and iron that dwarf what we have already removed from our planets crust. Lifeless worlds that offer vast cubic spaces to build habitats in. We think in square footage on this oxygen abundant world. On the Moon or Mars we would be underground and talking cubic footage.

We may in fact have to live underground here on Earth and leave the surface to just food and energy production. What is not profitable now will not be an issue when it comes to survival of the human race.
