For the same crime, and with a similar criminal history, men in the U.S. are imprisoned much more frequently and for much longer sentences, much like black people are imprisoned much longer than whites for the same crimes. This is one gender gap that we hear very little about.

It's allegedly because of the greater "caretaker" responsibilities women face. I don't necessarily agree with the double standard, especially since certain crimes will mean Child Protective Services gets involved and children are placed in foster care or sent to live with another relative.

Feminists are partially responsible for this, too. Case in point - they're actually trying to abolish jails for women.
