Well, I, for one would not bitch about the seat being "left down". I always make sure that the lid is down after using the rest room. It just looks better that way when both the seat and lid are down.

can't speak for all of my gender, but I complain about the lid being up.....who wants to be brushing their teeth and looking down into the toilet??

Mine is down always for the protection of the cats with poor balance in my house.

My cat thinks he's a dog and will drink out of the toilet if we don't keep the lid down. But I love him and he's the only one in the family who doesn't want anything more than food and the occasional scratch behind the ears from me

In most places of the world women just hunker their groins forward and let spray, standing up. You ever been in a public unisex pissoir in Paris?

My very first post on this board, under another name, was in the old thread about toilet seats up or down.

Someone here has a fixation about that.

Actually, I was just there earlier this month and I couldn't find a single hole in the floor for women. I'd heard so much about the terrible bathrooms in Paris- every one I saw was a perfectly normal toilet. Methinks Paris is being modernized. The unisex part though took a little getting used to, but that's no different than some other European countries.

Ohhh, Gawd, the place can't have changed that much in a mere 16 years! I will never forget the one below ground not far from the traffic circle around the Arc d'Triomphe .... I am not into this whole thing about watching women in the toilet, but that primitive hole in the floor warren almost changed my mind .... and now, she says, it is GONE!

Oh, lordy - does this mean the French are getting to be more like Americans? Ahh, Dominique, I think I'm gonna miss you ....

Yes. Not only that, but they were very nice and polite to me! I must have looked lost while I studied my maps a few times; I had people in the metro stop and ask if they could help me find my way. All I heard before I left were horror stories about how rude the French would be to me, especially since I didn't speak their language and I'm American. Wrong. My theory held true once again. If you are nice to them, they are nice to you. That rule has held true so far any place I've been in the world.

I keep the lid down for my cat too - she's a little different though. She loves water, and she'll try to go swimming in the toilet.
