If we're going to have Clinton era part II, can we get some decent music again?

90s music wasn't great, but compared to the last 15 years it was at least listenable.

The 70's were good, the 80's were kind of toss, the 90's were good, the 00's were mostly toss. I'm hoping the 10's redeems itself soon, or we'll break the cycle.

The 80s freaking rocked dude. Best era for music evah!

I kinda like pre-WWII funky stuff. YES WE HAVE NO BANANAS and I'M MY OWN GRANDPA and IT AIN'T NO SIN TO TAKE OFF YOUR SKIN AND DANCE AROUND IN YOUR BONES and MINNIE THE MOOCHER and all the old sex and drug songs.

But consider: How would musicians react to the presidency of Hill vs Bern vs Tromp vs Cruz? With the latter GOPish thugs, expect a resurgence of death-metal. With Bern it'll be Pete Seeger union songs. With Hill... probably some electronica boy-band cyborgs.

I'm a fan of the current stuff tbh. I think the problem as it were is that with music it's becoming increasingly difficult to be a true megastar. I'd be shocked if there is ever another Micheal Jackson or Elvis because Youtube and a thousand other streaming services.

As long as that doesn't involve Bill's saxophone.

It does seem like 90s grunge is enjoying a bit of a revival, but out of the context of that era it doesn't quite have the same effect.

For as much as Heinlein was all for patriotism, I believe he would be aghast at the brain-washing these kids have been forced to undergo.

Reminds me of the incident when he and his wife were in the USSR (back in the day) and were on a collective farm where they were taken to a kindergarten class. A little girl recited a poem, a boy delivered a memorized prose recitation (his words) and the class sang a song.

Heinlein spoke almost no Russian but his wife spoke it fluently. After they had left she had told him the girl recited the life of Lenin, the little boy gave a speech about the Seven Year Plan and the class sang about how we must all fight to preserve our revolution.

Yea, I'd say some of the best music I've ever herd has all been in the last 10 years.

But you wouldn't know most of them if you weren't digging because like you said all these internet services. Colombia/SONY etc. no longer have a monopoly on the production and distribution anymore so you're no longer being spoon fed shit music from a hand full of sources. A person with desire, talent and a few bones can make a damn good album at home with stuff they can pull off the shelf at Guitar Center or w/e put that bitch on youtube.
