Just that, really - and a warning of death to any British farmer or water company that cries drought in the next 5 years

It's not even just rain. We're talking full on storms here. Huge waves and winds that threaten to blow my little Zademobile off course.

It's bad weather even by December standards, and I'm wondering (global warming sceptics, cover your eyes) if we've started getting a Rainy Season, like they do in warmer countries at the end of the summer.

And it's not just a freak thing - this has been going on for weeks :(

If God were a weather-providing company he'd have been put under 'special measures' or sued into bankruptcy right now...

:bustle's in, turns on every light in the house, makes popcorn, turns on some lively music (what sounds good to you?), exchanges jokes and lively stories (and gossip!), etc.:

Total agreement

I too wish the rain would stop! I have got wet so many times this summer - cycling to work. . .

Yep, I wish it would stop too - although I hear Scotland have had a brilliant summer.

I remember reading somewhere that global warming would mean wetter summers for us.

Boston's been having an unusually rainy summer as well. I'm all for it actually, because it's meant the number of 95 degree high humidity days have been rather low.

Plus I generally like the rain. I sleep better, I breathe better.

It's really simple, just repeat after me,

"Rain, rain go away, so little Scheherazade can go out and play."

Do you know, it actually worked...

No rain this morning

We got it instead.
It's unbelievable weather, middle of August, and more like October. The wife is already in hibernation mode!!

It better be warmer and drier than this in a couple of weeks!! ;)

I was worried about rain today.

We had a pavement poetry event as part of our festival. If it had rained we couldn't have written the poems on the pavement; if it had rained hard and long we wouldn't have had any entrants.

The weather was kind. Apart from a fresh to strong wind it was perfect. We had about 300 people writing poetry during the day but we could only put 50 poems on the pavement. It wasn't lack of space but the poor overworked artist who was transcribing from 10am to 4pm.

Even some of the local youf stopped by to jeer and ended up participating.

I was feeling the same way, only backwards! For some reason I come out of hibernation in the winter. Cold, wind and rain invigorate me (unless I'm actually sick).

Can't guarantee. In fact, it'll probably rain and be too windy for an umbrella. But you'll still have a very nice time ;):rose:

I like Og's ideas :)

Here, I hope, is a picture of some of the poems.

My limerick is in yellow.

I read somewhere that UK weather forecasters had been curbed from mentioning the rain too often in their broadcasts - because it lowers British morale.

Personally I'd much rather have the truth. "Scattered showers" were forecast for the holiday weekend. Last night we experienced something similar to a monsoon. I went out in it, thinking it was just a heavier than usual "scattered shower" that would eventually stop, but instead it got worse and worse. Eventually I was forced to take shelter in some undergrowth, absolutely soaked to the skin.

Why do we always have to have such filtered, doctored versions of everything in the UK? It's happened for years with the news, and now it's happening with the weather.

I missed this, sorry Og :rose:

I'm glad the weather held off for you, and I'm amazed by your neat handwriting!

Not mine. We employed a starving student artist to spend the whole day on her knees writing all the poems.

Today we had a sports event in our park - the last event of our festival. Despite the rain we had hundreds of children participating in various sports. Football coaching by Charlton Athletic, boxing and fencing were the most popular. Everything stopped with a sea of umbrellas watching the large screen showing the Olympic Handover to London. Our local primary schoolchildren, runners-up in the county-wide sports event earlier this year, raised our own Olympic flag as Boris Johnson waved his flag in Beijing.

Now the sun is coming back and more children are arriving to take part so I'm off in my official capacity again...

Heh! We've had a tropical storm that dumped rain on every square foot of the state.
