Forget the buffet....let's get back to the topic at hand....
esp. since Literotica may be at stake with the pending
Supreme Court case/decision (see the Lit. newsletter
in regards to it)....and I think in the end we may end up
having to pay a small fee; however, I still feel that we
shouldn't have to pay to access this site.

Exactly as I agree.
If it should become an AVS, what type of compensation does the writers, such as myself, get? That is, are we going to have to pay to both submit and read stories here? Or would we be able to receive access to the site without a "SexKey", "AV Key", etc.?

Perhaps writers that post up here can get FREE access
to other goodies that others can't access. Perhaps a
"Writer's Club" or a "Elite Writer's Club" or something
crazy like that!

Isn't that what "Unregistered" just said?

All I know is I appreciate this joint but it will only survive if we put pen to paper and let folks in power know that perverts care about the Bill of Rights.

I wish that it was that simple. When "White Shadow" went AVS, there were no such compensations to the writers who contributed to the website's contents. Basically, WS said that a SexKey was required in order to open their site. But being one who submitted a few stories there, I didn't think that it would make sense for me to pay to read them.

I don't have a problem with an AVS thing other than having to pay for the privilege of using one because their services suck. I don't mind the idea of making sure that children can't get into porn, but I don't think that anyone who uses it should be required to. Perhaps there is a way to run a free AVS service, no?

I wouldn't give my credit card number to any adult thing on the net, no 'fense to Laurel. However, if Laurel were to charge a small yearly fee simply for the purpose of verifying age rather than go AVS, I would vastly prefer that. However, I would then require some sort of compensation for my material or I would have it removed. I figure that my contributions here pay for my priviledge of reading stories here. That and I click on ad banners.

This is a problem if this law slams down on top of us in January. I hope it fails. However, if it doesn't, what kind of plans are going into effect? Are there any?

any backup plan(s)?

I agree with the points that KillerMuffin has made......compensation
for those who post up their writing......and the issue about giving
out credit card numbers over the 'net. I have paid for small things
over the 'net via credit card (on astrology.com) but I did have an issue
when they charged my card 11 times...I had to call the company to
get rid of all those extra charges. Another credit card issue is
*security*........who knows who might be floating around on the 'net
ready to pick up anyone's CC #!
As KM mentions above, is/are any backup plan(s) going into effect
god forbid the law is put into place come January? I think it is something
worthwhile to think/talk about.

I hate to be the one to break the news to you, KM, but that's against the law. I don't think anyone can, personally, charge anyone to visit their website. That's the job of an AVS agency.
If Laurel chose to charge entrance to her website, she would have to hire the service of the AVS agency to enforce the charges.

Why is it illegal?

I understand why it is hard to do, but illegal?

Paying for Literotica

If there was a charge for visiting Literotica I would not be here. Not only are there other free places to go but if all sites were to start charging I would post stories on my own web page and put it in a search engine. Why pay to be flamed?

Flamed= being "put down" by other members of Literotica. Sometimes you will see it is a personality contest instead of a free forum for thought and expression. Many are unable to "debate" but take it personally and "flame" (insult) the poster.

Well, Guy, there are paysites galore all over the 'Net. You don't pay, you don't play. Click on a banner next time your reading a story and see if you can get it. It's not illegal at all.

Laurel has the ability to make it so that you have to get age verified to access the porn database, but not the peripherals like parts of the BB or the chat, if she liked.

If this law goes into effect, Power, you won't be able to post your erotica for free anymore. You will be required to verify the age of the visitors to your pages. Or you'll take out the sex. It's not just Lit that's going to have a problem, it's every site that puts up sexually explicit things that fall in the realm of "no minors." Laurel said she will not make this a pay site or an AVS site unless forced by law. That will include the rest of US 'Net as well.

Or you could put your stuff on foreign servers with lax laws. But most ISP's filter that out.

That is true. But the last time I visited Kara's Amatuers website, I didn't see Kara collecting any fees. It was an AVS agent.

But what I don't understand is how does paying to visit a website prove that you're at least 18 years of age? There are many high school students (under the age of 18) who either uses their parents credit card or has student credit cards to make purchases. Therefore, charging your credit card for an AVS subscription doesn't prove your legal age.
