If I could Write a Picture
If my pen could be my brush
My pallet humble words
I’d paint hosts of pictures
The blue sky with humming birds
I’d paint the autumn colours
The leaves a kaleidoscope.
The late winter sunshine
That gives us warmth and hope.
I’d paint the forest green
The lake a placid blue
With bulrushes gently sway
In a morning misty hue
I’d paint the atmosphere
A tranquil shade of green.
The sound of the lark
High in the sky there seen.
I’d paint the rhythms of the sea
From a gentle soothing swell
To the monster of her anger
And her untamed raging hell.
I’d paint moods of nature
Her tenderness of spring
The gentle rain in April
Swallows mating on the wing.
I’d paint a dawn in summer
Birdsong in full flow
The morning sun a rising
In all its awesome glow.
I’d paint the glittering morning dew
Before it evaporates
And tell the sensual feeling
Walking barefoot that it makes.
I’ll be the artist
My brush will be my pen
My pallet humble words
Written to last, forever then…
