If G.W. Bush was not the son of former President Bush, would he have been elected?

In my opinion, of course not. the man couldn't even run a baseball team. he is just awful..let me just say as a native Texan... He is an embarassment. he isn't even from Texas...grrrrr...it just makes me so mad. he is about the most ignorant public official that I have seen. He really is a horrid person to have for a President. The man can barely speak English correctly. He was asked if Gore was abrupt with him in a phone conversation and the dumb ass didn't even know what abrupt meant. The thing that scares me is that if he doesn't get a grasp on his public speaking soon, he might mess something up and then who ever is translating for him gets confused and BOOM!!! WW3......but that's just my opinion.........

Only if he were running against someone taking alpha male lessons.

Of course not. Names mean a lot. Kennedy. Bush. Ventura. Gore. You have to have a base and family can provide that.

Both Bush and Gore are scions of political dynasties. Gore at least could point to several terms as a Senator and eight years as VP to explain why he was qualified to be President. Bush was governor of Texas for one term, and in Texas the governor has rather limited power, compared to other states. He was a disaster as an oilman. He was the general partner of the Texas Rangers even though he only put up about $1million of his own money to buy the club. He has not shown that he is especially intelligent, especially talented, especially skilled at politics. Many of his Cabinet members are far more accomplished than he is.

Without his father's connections, George W. Bush absolutely would not be President. It took his father, his brother, the Florida Secretary of State, and the Supreme Court to get this guy in office. Maybe Bush will grow into the Presidency, but I doubt it. I think we're looking at four gloomy years. I don't think Gore was an outstanding choice either. The best and brightest among us don't want to endure the hell of running for president. Thus we're left with a man like Bush in the White House.

Say what you will about Clinton, but he decided at a very early age that he wanted to be President, and took steps calculated to get him in there. He is the consummate politican. He is such a larger than life figure in America's consciouness, both good and bad, that the next guy would of course pale in comparison. Bush pales almost into invisibility. What Clinton could have accomplished, if he'd just had a little self-control. What a waste. And now 4 years of Dubya. I worry for our country.

BUSH WON THE ELECTION???????? damn *going to post office, removing flyer listing him as one of the 10 most wanted thieves*

My answer: I didn't elect him. And no I don't think he would have even been considered if he hadn't carried the Bush name.
Best study up on the Warren Harding administration. Sounds like we have a replay coming.
