With all the individuals in the service, there is an opportunity to write Christmas cards and send care packages to those not in the US for the holiday season. One group you can send cards and packages to is called Operation Christmas Joy. You sign the cards and list a return address or the the cards will not go through to the military. Sent the cards and/ or packages to: Jane Herrera(Christmas Joy) HQ UFEUCOM, CMR 480 Box 205, APO, AE09128. APO addressess are treated as US mail so postage cost are the same as mailing in the country.

Thank you very much for the info

I think it would be a very nice thing to do. When we were in the gulf war I sent letters and care packages to service people overseas. I cant imagine being so far from home and spending the holidays in such a way. I think if everyone sent a card or care package we could really be making some homesick and lonely people very very happy. Especially since they are risking their lives so we can be home with our families.

I know from before some of the care package things they could use--besides tokens of appreciation--were not things I would've thought of. Do you have a list of things that they could use? Thanks.

No, sorry I don't have a list. This was in my college paper and I thought I would pass it on to everyone. I was thinking about making some candy or cookies..and sending some cards. I know it would not be much, but I think any little thing would be great.

They will love anything

It doesnt have to be much. From my past experience they love even just letters. It is nice to get mail when in such a scary situation. They will go crazy for cookies.

I just figured if there was something in particular they may need (especially with the difference in climate and stuff). If I can come across a list of needed items I will attach it here.

It is certainly a nice thought. I have a stepbrother was promoted to Drill Seargeant just before everything happened so he will be staying stateside.

May I make one suggestion....

With the intense screaning going on both here and in Military service mail, it may be wise to not send any food items. I would bet most would be discarded rather than tested in the climate of biological threats.

A short letter is a small gesture and it does get to the men, and it does help morale.

This is a WONDERFUL sentiment but I thought the US military was asking us NOT to send letters and cards this year because of the anthrax concerns but rather videos and emails instead. Seems like I saw something about this on TV yesterday. Anybody know more about that?

Phantom.

Phantom,

I think you are correct, They did say they prefered videos. I'm not sure if they said no letters.

I know certain businesses are allowing the public to make videos at locations...Circuit City being one of them(I think).
