Idle Idyll

Ha, I vaguely recall a thread somewhere around here where someone opened up their own thread that announces and reviews their own stories. All reviews were topnotch rates, surprisingly. Then I wondered if there shouldn't be a thread for a counterbalance, like to announce one's own stories and review them, but give themselves all the most scathing reviews. It's an appealing idea, just for the opportunity to practice self-deprecating humor, but I guess you'd need to have some stories first.
You can use my stories. Feel free. :D

A scathing review of my own work. I really like the idea. Someone really needs to tell me to get my head back in the game :D Anyway, have to run for now, but I'll be thinking about some constructive self-criticism.

What will you be wearing while reading the scathing review

Well, I suspect this is a complement to the self-deprecating humor angle (slant? slant's better than angle?)

...I suspect this is a complement... humor slant, but knowing firsthand how difficult it is to produce a successful top to bottom written work, I can't bring myself to lay a scathing review on anyone who goes to the trouble of at least trying (and I'm serious about that).

It ain't easy. It's fun, yes, and possesses its own allure, but it's always so easy to go astray or put it aside. Always getting sidetracked.

Maybe this thread is more about the block that hasn't come yet, but you fear it's coming soon. Causes a mix of resignation and desperation.

Maybe?

PS: I may 'use' your stories, yes... how about a couple quick scathing compliments?
I thought I was helping you overcome the 'no stories' block. :D

Oh, and don't worry about the scath content getting too high if you do end up using my stories. I've had painfully honest stuff said about my stories. And a lot of trolling and some lighthearted backslapping too, and I hope I know by now which is which. Yours would be fun, if you do it. :)

Oh no, may day may day!
It is something that must be handled with the utmost care, for it is tissue most delicate. Some things that begin with best intent can turn ugly and detrimental quite easy, and people can end up being hurt.
It's something to think about but not to carry out.
The working title would be something like, "hmmnmmn's completely unreadable and unmeritorious illiterations and etceteras"
But it won't be and I don't advise it. the long term ramifications are not profitable.

But this reminds me of something else - a little safer and a little more plausible: instead of laboring and sweating to write a good work that turns out not-so-good, what about intentionally trying to write something bad? Maybe that would come out good.

:)

And what about the Wrong Number idea? Been done a lot?
Now that's up to you. I already said I won't be offended.

Moving on, you haven't been reading the right things here if you think no on'es tried to intentionally write bad. Try the The Worst Chain Story Ever.

The wrong number idea...I don't know. *shrug* Write it. :)

See?
"haven't been reading the right things"
Intentional bad writing: done.
Someone done done it. See? That ain't easy neither. Weird, huh?
The wrong number idea. Probably some movies done it. Probably where the idea came from: submarinal implantation.

Might as well go take a bath, jerk off or something... wait, I bet you're gonna say that's been done too.
But...but I haven't read the wrong number idea yet. It'll be new for me. Write it! *cracks whip*

Seriously, if we stopped writing anything that's ever been done, there's be nothing at all to write. We all put our own individual stamp on things that have been done, and that's what makes them 'ours'.

I know I know I know.
Only a few themes or whatever they are, redone and redone and redone, since the angles and combinations are endless.

But an idea did come regarding the aforementioned thread idea.

As Gene Wilder said in Young Frankenstein, "It... Could... WORK!"

I do believe we blew that block out of the air.

Thank You.
You're most welcome. :) And does this mean you're going ahead with the thread idea? :cathappy:

Still thinkin' on it.
If it's handled rightly, could be fun. Handled unrightly, bad news.
Maybe try a rough sketch and see if it... grows something, like legs. If so, great, if not, we can let it float out where threads go that don't grow... something.
Luck. :rose:

More developments since.
But now, the old problem: another new idea added to the piles of those never attended to or only fractionally attended to. This is the fearful part.
Because, ideas are easy to think about and get excited about.
Another thing to do them. Just one.

A trial run is likely.
Stop. Dithering.
