Hey all,

After a long time away, I decided that I wanted to continue a series that I started 11 years ago. 2 new stories in the series were posted this past month and I am in middle of writing the last part of the story now. I was wondering how my fellow authors increase their reader engagement and views?

I would love to see my stories read and commented on more.

Any ideas would be appreciated! Any feedback on the stories would also be appreciated!

Here are the links to the stories:

Ps I posted this in another thread so I hope it is okay that I posted it here too

Best way to increase reader engagement is to consistently write more stories that readers enjoy.

Yeah, what Chloe posted. And, I'm afraid that picking up a story after eleven years isn't likely to do it. Not too many readers are likely to jump into the middle of a chaptered series--or to go back to read up from the beginning when the gap is more than a week or two.

A few random thoughts:

1. Publish to different categories, to broaden your base of readers.

2. Put a note at the bottom of your story asking people to comment.

3. When people comment, reply, nicely.

4. Contribute actively and positively to the Author's Hangout, and be nice to people.

5. Ask for feedback in the Feedback Forum.

6. Write standalone stories as opposed to chapters, so you're constantly pulling in new readers.

7. Read other people's stories, and respond to them in a constructive way. There's definitely a "If you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" phenomenon.

Or hate. I get a lot of views even when I tell them what's what. But I of course post in Loving Wives a lot. You get a lot of clicks and a lot of comments there. ;)

Same as above

I'll simply reiterate what everyone is saying.

1. Write well. That's the easiest way for people to engage and read more. If you write to elicit feelings, you'll get comments and votes. I started taking the time to set up stories and I was doing 2k-3k words of just creating characters and my votes and DMs went up. Good writing trumps all.

2. Vary the Categories. If you're only in Exhib-Voy, you'll get the same people reading your stuff. Spread your wings and try new categories to get a wider base who like other things.

3. Comment and vote on others' work. They'll be interested in what you have to say and they'll reply back. Writing is, in the end, collaborative so commenting on all the stories you read will encourage more people to comment back.

4. Post here on the forums and ask for thoughts and opinions.

Good hunting!

I'm write one or two stories a year, and I think I get a high amount of reader engagement. Here's what I do:
1. Write main characters who have a life beyond the romance. To me, that makes them more interesting and relatable
2. Bring into the story a social issue. Don't get preachy, but give the reader something to think about beyond the romance and sex. In my last story, I discuss flirting and groping
3. Write extended Author Notes for the reader to read if they choose. The one for my latest story is here
4. I stick to one category that has a high number of readers

Edit:
5. I write long stories. My latest is nine pages.

I posted my first story here in 2014, and thankfully it was well received by the readers. I posted a second, unrelated story here in 2015, which attracted more followers for me. In 2020, six years after posting the first story, I posted a sequel to it. This attracted readers who had enjoyed the first story and drove new readers back to the first story at the same time. I have posted two additional stories in this franchise since with readers continuing to request more.

After 11 years, a lot of readers of your first story may have left this site. That means that many people discovering your works may be doing so based upon newer submissions. Titling them as you have will encourage readers to start at the beginning.

You might try writing and posting a story to the Loving Wives category, and at the end add an Author's Postscript referencing this story is related to your other works.

I did this with my On The Job challenge story, by stating at the end "these are my favorite characters, and you can read move about them in my Lifestyle series. After that story posted, I seemed to get a surge of more views on those ten other stories and a few more ratings.

The downside of posting to Loving Wives is the hateful comments you'll receive unless it's a "burn the bitch" story. But as long as you're prepared for those haters, it can spur them to respond.
