Idea for a new thread

I have an idea for a new thread but am not sure whether it's any good.

I think we should have a new poem discussion thread, were a poem is picked out from the new poem reviews and discussed.

Could be good for some lively discussion

:)

I actually think your idea is better than the official review thread and I'd participate if there was such one.

This idea has come up before and people have argued that the poet in question may not want his (or her) poem discussed. Personally, I think if you post AND are willing to accept comments on your submission page, you shouldn't have a problem with your poem being discussed here, but I know some people take anything less than "Yay you!" as a personal criticism.

Maybe you should redo this thread as an open poll and choose poems from those who vote yes....

Not for the Thin Skinned ?

Doesn't the Pat Carrington thread 'Not for the thin skinned" perform this exact function? The only difference seems to be that you appear to be suggesting that a poem should be taken and reviewed, rather than volunteered for review. Perhaps if you canvassed for volunteers that would help.

This thread has some first class stuff on it.

I think Ms. A., as usual, has this just right. (Hey, Natalie, hope you are feeling better! :)) One problem is selecting poems by people who would accept commentary that may be less positive than "you're wonderful!"

Other things to consider: Who determines which poem is to be discussed? How often is a new poem selected for comment? Who does the selection? How do we avoid always picking the same people for comment? How do we ensure there actually is comment?

I like the idea, but isn't this the kind of thing the Poetry Discussion Circle was created to do?

Not necessarily knocking this as an idea, but as A. says, we've been here before. I think.

Big difference between poetry discussion circle/not for the thin skinned is that the poet themselves puts up the poem for discussion and generally before it has been submitted. The purpose there is to get suggestions for improvement, find out where it works, etc.

I am thinking this would be more like a critique? Not necessarily suggesting changes. Like, pretend the poet is passed on into the great netherworld and we sit around and talk about his/her poem?

I think that it is a cool idea, has been tried before, but cool idea nonetheless...

I have to get my big ass back to reading the new poems. It has been weeks

cool

I like this idea. I need something to do while waiting on summer. ;)
