Icons Slow Literotica Down (Laurel?)

I've noticed that since the start of these personalized graphic icons the loading of threads is slowed down considerably. This is a very minor inconvenience when I'm at home on the cable modem. However, when I'm traveling like I am this week (and which I do often), it is VERY noticeable on the plain old telephone line/modem.

The main point of this site is the words, isn't it? I don't want to be a stick in the mud but...

The problem can be alleviated to an extent. The way the system currently works is that each image is really a link to the site that actually houses that image. Some sites are fast and those images load quickly, some sites are notoriously slow (like Geocities) and those images DO NOT load quickly. In addition image size comes into consideration. An image that is 6k loads much faster than an image that is 29k. When a particular thread has several of these icons some of which are large, more than one of which is housed on a slow site - well the result is a page that takes FOREVER to load.

If icons are to continue here as a feature I'd like to make a suggestion. Provide the capability for us to upload our icons onto the literotica site. This way the only factors in how fast it takes for any one icon to load is the speed of this site alone (literotica) and the size of the icon.

The second issue is one of copyright. No one pretends that the image they found on the net is completely copyright free. We're probably not going to get sued individually, but the Lit Board could easily be sued for promoting copyright infringement.

I've made an icon - just haven't used it - there is a FUN element to it... just was hoping to find a way to eliminate some problems with them. Mine is copyright free.

There are definitely issues in having Lit host them, cost of storage and bandwidth being primary among them.

If one slows me down, I click the stop button. The rest of the thread pops right up.

If you're using an image and it's too big, and you want to reduce it, try GIFBot. It isn't perfect, but it will probably work for basic file optimizing:

Most of the dolls are pretty small (under 3k) so they aren't so much of an issue.

The freebie sites like geocities are MUCH slower, I would suggest at the very least upgrading to MSN or something of that sort. Still free, better speed.

I like the icons and there wouldn't be a problem if some of the people here could controll their stupidity

As far as the graphics go, if those who use graphics in their taglines could take the time to size them & compress them down, it would help quite a bit. The dolls are small - less than 3k each, from what I've seen - but I know that if there's many on a page it can get grueling for those with low bandwidth. In those cases, I suggest you do as someone else already suggested - hit "stop" on your browser. The text will appear, but it will stop the graphics from loading.
