I had to stop at the DMV today with my partner from work.........

As we sat there and folks in front of us were getting there pics. taken I saw a white guy with all kinds of Tats that were no doubt KKK tats "White Power" a skinhead...........(I noticed this cause I have about 10 Tats myself and have many more planed) I just went about our plans there on the way out I passed him at a red light and he had a little small car we were in our 4 door dually pick up that sits up real high , my partner was driving and I looked down into his car and saw all kinds of white power emblems.....
This got me and my partner thinking is there anyone out there that really believes that we are heading towards racial harmony???????????????
I mean I grew up in about a 50 or 60 % black school and would never treat anyone of any race like shit ................I mean I'm Italian.........But not really............I'm american......I didn't come over on the boat...........
But this got us thinking and we both feel if anything we are sliding backwards instead of forward...........

Anyone care to add anything to this?????? I'm intrested in hearing it.........Black, white ,blue ,green?????????????

And another thing ............these are pretty young adults...............What a shame..........

What I find sad is, that there are people out there who geniuinely believe with all of their hearts that they are making the world a better place with all of their violent racism.

Well Wizard, I see it too. I live in the Mid South and some things never change. Though I will say this, it is nowhere as prominent as it used to be. I am an equal opportunity person, regardless of skin color or gender. It is a shame that there are still people who pull the race card out. Unfortunately it is not restricted to the US of A alone in having racial problems. So it is a world wide problem and is more prominent in the US than other countries, for the most part..........what a shame. I grew up in a racially mixed school system and we had a wide variety of racial backrounds and it was interesting that the more we knew each other the more it didn't make a difference what race you are, but WHO you are that mattered.

Rape has nothing to do with sex, and Skinheads have nothing to do with truly disliking a race for any sensible reason. I don't consider it racism. It isn't well thought out enough to be racism. It's utter Ignorance compounded by intense Laziness of thought and a snotty desire to Have rather than Earn.

Reverse Racism

If I hear, "You're just put out by a strong black brotha." by an ebonic speaking, fuzzy dice in the window, stereo type black person again, I'm gonna take a hostage.

I don't know about all that, but I wouldn't mind one turning me out.

See, I see it as we are all equal no color thing but one thing that is a real bad subject to me is afirmative action.........When I was younger I was beat out of a job with the city of Pittsburgh Fire Dept...............They hire a white man last and a black girl first........the tests are score diffrent and a lower grade get them the job........as a better grade and the wrong skin color just don't get it.............Now let me make it clear if I am beat fair and square then I am big enough to bow my head and shake a hand and try again another time...........But if someone can do the job better and gets passed over that is just wrong........

:(

You're just put out by a strong black sista.

See how this can get annoying real fast?

IMHO, the days of Affirmative Action are long since over, they need to do away with it. I feel your pain Wizard, been there and done that.

It used to serve a purpose and maybe in a small degree still does, but what have you gained? In reality you have got potentially a person who is underqualified for a position who meets a racial criteria rather than to fill a real need in your organization.

Thats what I meant about the best person for the job..........I didn't know they had done away with it I swear they still do it hear but I could be wrong I haven't heard recently but this was 15 years ago.........

To me it is like looking for a Dr. do you want the guy that just passed the tests to work on you????????? Who is the lucky person to get that guy.............

Seeing something like that would probably scare me a lot. I wouldn't have known what to do. I would have tried not to look at them, I suppose. Being Jewish is still scary even in this age.

Myst, Just makes me think how Fucked up shit really is in this world........................

The other day, I saw a guy... young, probably early 20s... walking through the local Wal-Mart in a "Boys In The Hood" t-shirt.

A nice big KKK hood on the front of it...

It's alive and well out there.

The scary thing is, that I can't go around wearing a huge star of David on my sweatshirt, I'd get beaten, I'm sure.

People, unfortunately operation Zero Tolerance is alive and well. I guess all anyone can do, as an individual, is not give in to it and become a messanger of hatred themselves.

However, how do one avoid those kind of actions??

Yes Jews are stioll beaten, and synagogs is still burned, plastered with swastika graphitty. Individual jews are still attacked. African-americans (blacks ops non political correct word) is still attacked, Asians are still attacked, Hispanic. You name it.
In the far east white people are attacked on a daily basis as colored are in the western world.

And to think it's only been 56 years since the holocaust....not even 10 years since Bosnia.

Anyone else think, that learning from history, just dont catch with some people??

Actually Myst...unfortunately there would be no doubt about it.

operation Zero Tolerance is alive and well, and is kicking ass in most cities around the planet.

Do you really think so? I can't imagine it. I think you'd be safe in the area of the world I live in. At least I'd like to think you would be.

I grew up in middle class suburbia - very much sheltered from any race outside my own. I think we had 2 black people in my high school - about 1500 people in all. I was raised in E. TN and despite the flagrant racism that existed then and now, I've never subscribed to that mindset. I have my parents to thank for that.

My ex-husband, however, was a red-neck extroidinairre. I know, I'm not too proud of it now - what can I say? It was a stage I was going through. hehe I tried and tried to get him to realize that no race is "better" than the other, but he was too steeped in his own ignorance to want to open his eyes. I had many many disagreements with his friends and family over the seven years we were together about race. Or rather, their racism. I wouldn't tolerate racist jokes, wouldn't tolerate racial slurs and every once in a while told one of his narrow-minded, back-water country-ass mutherfucking cousins to kiss my "black-loving" ass.

Then in college we debated the merits (or lack thereof depending upon your view) of AA. So very many young white men were angry at AA - felt like the "good white man" was being put down - being held back - being treated as second rate just so some black person can get a leg up. UNFAIR! They screamed.. . blah blah blah. Can you tell me how many white americans there are versus black americans? Is there any way possible for black americans to outstrip young white males at all jobs? It's ludicrious. It is also equally ludicrious to assume that there is now a level playing field and there's no need for programs such as AA. The playing field will never be level... white americans won't allow it to be so.

Wizard -

As for affirmative action, I'm a strong supporter of affirmative action as it is currently set up. For one thing, women have been the main benefactors of this program. However, the kind of aff action that you encountered is not what is established today. The Supreme Court has found quotas to be unconstitutional. The only kind of affirmative action program that is constitutional is called a plus in the file. This means if two candidates are equal and one is a minority, that minority status gives them a plus in the file and thus the job. I think this is quite beneficial.

lavender... darlin..... I hate to pick on your posts, but they just have so much more "meat" in them.

I think AA is alive and well, reqardless to what the Supreme Court has ruled. It was, after all, within the last 48 hours that the Supreme Court let stand an appeals court ruling that race can not be used as a factor for admissions at the Univ. of Texas School of Law. Yet, in the same 48 hour period, the Supreme Court let stand an Arizona law that allows race to be a consideration in university admissions.

In many federal procurement contracts, a "small, woman or minority owned" business can ask for and receive a 6% advantage in price considerations. This is called the "small and minority owned business set-aside". MANY government contracting companies are technically owned by the wives of business men, to allow them to receive this competitive advantage.

Two years ago, the city of Houston, held a referendum on minority contract set-asides. The bill was narrowly defeated, leaving the set-asides in place. By law, the city of Houston, MUST grant 40% of all city contracts to businesses owned by women or minorities. You would think that in a city where more than 50% of the population is black or hispanic, this wouldn't be a problem, but the city comptroller has estimated that it costs the city 28 million dollars each year to maintain the set-asides. This is based on the "low bid" prices versus the "awarded contract" prices.

Affirmative Action is not dead. If someone thinks AA is a good thing, then this should be good news. If someone thinks AA is a bad thing, then you can hold out hope that the movement is slowly dying.

A couple of years ago, I sat in a Dallas hotel restaurant having breakfast. There was some kind of African-American conference being held in the hotel. At the table next to mine, were several distinguished (by their dress) black men. Their breakfast conversation consisted of a discussion of which companies "they" were "in". They were talking about who they had placed in "hiring" positions in different companies, and how many African-Americans they had managed to get "in".

I had serious mixed feelings about the conversation I had overheard. I could understand an honest feeling they might have about trying to advance the lives of other African-Americans. I also knew, that if white men had been having the same conversation, they would have been considered by anyone as extreme racists.

Equality of opportunity also means equality of effort. I don't expect to be given anything because of my race. I also don't expect to be denied of anything because of my race. It just appears to me, that AA does both of these things at the same time.

I have older italian relatives that did come over on the boat, and they faced problems like discrimination and hatred, too. Some of them became racially tolerant as a result, but others developed prejudices against blacks and more recent foreigners like Asian Indians

The problem may lie in the way some of these white power groups are attacked and repressed by the government. If you just let them do what they do, so long as they don't physically hurt people, then they just look ridiculous. But if you raid them and censor them and push them around, you give them more credibility in the minds of some people. They begin to think, hey, these folks must be important if the FBI is shooting them. And the poor white trash kids who have been kicked around all their lives empathise with these groups and then identify as well. Same with middle class kids who have been treated the same way. Germany's strict laws against Nazis have led, I think, in part to a stronger set of hate groups than they would have otherwise.

Any Nazi type movement attracts ne'erdowells such as these.

The bad side of this is that the media start lumping Confederate historical associations with Nazi and KKK groups, even the Sons of Confederate Veterans which has black members. People should be allowed to be proud of their history without being painted in ugly words.

Cuts both ways

I hate racism, in any form, but recent event haere in the UK have left me a little gob-smacked!

In the Midlands of England there have been several "race-riots" (personally I feel these are pointless, unless you edit a tabloid newspaper - then it will boost your profit!).

Eminent and learned men condemn these, The Council for Racial Equality have said it is an accurate portrayal of the bias against the ethnic community in the UK. Everyone has pounced on the bandwagon.

A day ago, it is reported by witnesses, that there was a heated exchange between four Aisian ("Brown Skinned") Youths in a car and two white males on foot. The car left and drove off down the road, where it hungs a "U" and raced back down the street. It DELIBERATELY" ploughed into the two youths. One managed to jump free, the other has a badly broken leg and is lucky to be alive.

Now my point is this - NO-ONE from the eminent and learned men who spoke up against racism has condemened the actions of these youths, I feel sad that it is so, but media and press only seem to make a big deal when the agressors are white.

Any form of descrimination without reason (I`m thinking of things like giving a rapist a job in a womens aid center, or a paedophile a job in a kindetgarten as being valid examples of reasons), is wrong. Male, female, black, yellow, white, big, thin, fat and all the other differences we note are what make us wonderful.

What a world we might have if people were people and not reasons for hate,

Just my humble opinion,

Heart xxx

In the US too there have been instances of minority on white hate crimes. In fact there is an attitude that if a white man were to go into a predominantly black neighborhood and got robbed or killed, the first reaction is that he was foolish to bethere in the first place. Asians in the US are not looked at as minorities....the affirmative action statements coming out now read underrepresented minorities encouraged to apply...this is obviously auimed at asians who succeed very well in the US system. True, Asian gang violence is up, but whites are in gangs, too.
The problem is that it takes generations to assimilate and absorb cultures. For a long time, the Normans discriminated against the Saxons they conquered, but after a few centuries, who cared? Intermarriage and economics forces cultures together....someday blacks and whites here will be indistinguishable just as the pure American Indian ancestry is dwindling to nothing
