Braves trade LHP Rocker to Indians

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Braves finally rid themselves of controversial closer John Rocker on Friday night, sending him to the Cleveland Indians.
The trade is expected to be announced once the Braves complete their game in New York and the Indians finish their contest in Kansas City.
Rocker, who came under intense criticism for insensitive remarks made in a Sports Illustrated article in December 1999, is 2-2 with a 3.09 ERA and 19 saves in 23 chances.
The Indians already have one of baseball's deepest bullpens but are without setup man Paul Shuey, who is sidelined with a right elbow injury.
One report from Shea Stadium has the Indians sending setup men Steve Karsay and Steve Reed to Atlanta. Karsay has expressed a desire to move back into the rotation and the Braves could use another starter. Reed is among the more dependable righthanded relievers.
