I think they're cute.

I wonder how often they need sheared and if they are okay with it or if they act like pricks. If the latter, I might rethink wanting a Llama.

Anything that has a double letter in their name MUST be a Jerk... That's not a scientific fact mind you.... Just a generalization. I once new a girl named Aaron... Total Jerk.

This is an interesting observation. I should start paying attention to the double beginning letter to a name thing. It might be valid. Or, maybe Aaron was just a natural born jerk, It happens, you know.

It does, but I'm grasping at straws... I Do know Llamas spit like a jerky camel. Maybe a Llama is like a Biff Tannon. No matter how many times you go back to the future, they are all related Jerk wads.

You were talking the other day, with Ish, about a horsey or poney who strayed from the neighborhood onto your doorstep. So cute! Your place must be paradise.:)

It was a miniature horse. Which to most look like a pony. It's about genetics.

My place seems to be a critter magnet. I once came home to find a 1200# bull in my pasture.

How's juttjaw working out for you?

I have been spat upon by a llama.
It was not my fault.
The beast was tethered in a field 25-30 feet away beyond a low fence.
I was only walking by.
I turned to look and it let me have one in the face.
Amazing accuracy.

Conclusion:
Llamas can't stand scrutiny.

BT,

The dozen or so I have worked with of both llamas and alpacas are sheared once annually in the spring for maintenance and to keep them cooler in summer months. and they will be as manageable as you make them. If you put in the time to handle them, they are very affectionate and easy to work with. If not, you'll have a bad actor most likely. The bonus though is that they won't bite and they are soft footed so a kick doesn't really hurt.

The only real issue I have seen is the acidity in their urine (they urinate over their dung) will burn patches in your grass. And the whole thing about trying to use them as a livestock guardian that has been trying to take hold is never going to work....unless, like the epileptic goats you just want to feed the predators a varied diet. :D
