...do a audio story.

I just spent the last half hour browsing them. I'm all inspired and stuff. ::wink::

:nana:

I'm wondering what works best. The written then read stories or the first person conversation types?

I think one of the main problems with audible stories is the voices. Either you do them all yourself or you get friends, etc. to do them with you.

Another problem, for me at least, was doing the recording. For some reason, my computer will only record one minute at a time, so I have to keep an eye on it, so I can repeatedly punch up another minute, while reading the story. I did only one, and will probably never do another one. I also have ten audible poems, because they are much shorter and easier to do.

Interesting.

So I'm to assume that the tips and tricks to the audio files are in FAQ somewhere?

My voice? Hmmm....dunno. I think it could work.

Guess we'll have to see.

I had the same problem as Boxlicker with the one minute limit. Another problem is to keep your voice level steady and the distance from your mouth to the microphone constant. Seems easy? It's not!

Here's a link to some decent software.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

You can record the files in MP3 format - less size.

Don't do voices at all. Read the entire story as if you're telling it to a friend after the fact. It's easier to do and seems almost voyeuristic, in a way. Very hot.

I've - um - recorded a few stories for an audio site.

It was fun, hubby was very interested, and I certainly enjoyed the end result of his interest.

It would be easier to do as you describe but the readers wouldn't like it. These are the comments I got from the one audible story I have done. I don't know what the first reader was thinking about. The score right now is about 3.60 or thereabouuts, probably my lowest ranked story.

Loved the story, but

The reading needed more emotion. I wanted to hear the lust in his voice.

Stiff voice

The narrator was too stiff. The speaker would have been much more exciting if he would have used various levels and expression.

the voice didn't do much for me... Too much like a news anchor or something :-\ Great story though!

I told each story slowly, as if I was telling the reader(listener) about my latest sexual adventure. As if it had all happened to me personally.

I added a bit of breathlessness when I got to the sexual parts, some soft laughing, a few sighs and certain delicious teasing sounds.

No complaints at all.

As a matter of fact, they've already sent me 7 more scripts.

;)

Okay. You must be a lot better than I am at it. Actually, I think almost any woman would be better than me, certainly for male readers/listeners.

Edited to add: That's interesting, though. Most of the stories that I write, including this one, "Tiffany's Tits" are written with myself as one character and a woman as the other, and describe the sexual activities. I didn't have any sound effects, though.

I imagine more men listen than women, hence a female voice is more of a turn-on.

That's my take anyway.

Acting, whether stage, screen, or audio is a talent. As Father Mulcahy said in M*A*S*H, "Some guys got it. Some guys don't!"

But I guess you are right that the voice of a sexy female has a definite advantage...

PS I endorse Audacity

I agree to a point. I also think that if a man is involved in an industry where he has trained his voice he would get an equal response from the opposite sex..but certainly as it stands now more men are into this sort of thing as listeners

For you sarahh...I'm all ears.

I appreciate the feedback. Now I'm wondering if I should. I don't think I have a "sexy" voice. It may be more on the sweet side...maybe a little youthful. So should I just forget about doing it?

Thanks for the link sweetsubsarahh.

I wanted to do one too. Audible stories or poems are the one place I can think of where second person POV might be a plus, but I can't get my !*&$! microphone to work.

I bought a new Sony mike (lost the original for my PC), plugged it into the microphone port, downloaded 3 different recording free-wares, and still I couldn't get it to work. Very frustrating. I gave up.

There are a lot of poets I never cared for until I heard them read their own stuff. Jack Kerouac is one. I'm hoping I might be another.

Any advice?

Are you certain it's a software problem? I have just a very basic, inexpensive Labtec mike - I wasn't certain I would enjoy the audio work - but after calibration with my system it works very well.

It took a few tries to get the Audacity software to work properly, however.

Now I usually make an initial recording (Audacity records it in aup files) and then I can export that either in WAV, which has a very large file size, or MP3, which is about 1/3 the size. Most network e-mail systems (yahoo or excite) cannot handle emailing WAV files because of the size.

I'm certainly not an expert in this. Everything I've learned has been through trial and error, but does any of this help?
