I think I can safely say the early voting in Texas is going to be HEAVY.

Never saw a line of people going out of the room, down the hall and outside along the side of the building past the corner and cars were pulling in way faster than people leaving. I even saw eight Nuns standing in line. The five o'clock rush is going to be a bitch!

However, it is the first day....

I don't understand all this early voting. I vote on election day. Of course I live in very small town USA, where you walk in and the election moderators know your name and where you live and what you had for supper.

Lucky you!

I vote early so I don't have to hunt where ever they changed my voting place to!

So you got paid to vote?

Our mail-in ballots arrived last week. We like to drop them off at the county courthouse in person but haven't been to town yet -- probably tomorrow. I'm still working through the plethora of hairy propositions offered here. Some are tough, with real heavies backing both sides. But I've already marked the top of the ballot -- Green again. As if it matters...

It matters to you. And that's all that matters, yey?

My experience here in Travis county, Tx was great! We arrived at the site at about 4pm and I was standing in the voting booth within 3 minutes of walking thru the door!

I saw on the local news here that boxes of cookies were being passed down the lines at some of the locations...cool eh!

I'm just glad to be done with it. I've been glued to this election madness 24/7 the last few days and I'm just kinda sick of it all by now.

Tonight, I'm watching "Murder, She Wrote". LOL

You are kidding??? The tiny town of Lufkin had that many sites open for early voting?

I believe there were only about a dozen that are "open every day, 7am-7pm" during the early voting "Oct 24-Nov 4" in the entire Travis county....Austin, Tx.

Luckily, one was just down the street from us.

yah, things aren't perfect here by far....but where else am I going to vote?

I'm just waiting for the perfect candidate that will change all that.

I can't imagine what that means in relation to my question.

There's a big difference between 'not perfect' and 'crooked'.

Who in the whole wide world, in your opinion, has the most balanced and fair electoral system?

I've no first-and experience with elections except in USA and Guatemala but while gargling around I found this comment which seems pretty reasonable:
New Zealand and Germany have MMP (Mixed Member Proportional) which are pretty good, at least compared to some others... As the name suggests, seats are allocated proportionally: You vote directly for a party, not a particular candidate, and if your party gets (say) 30% of the vote you get 30% of the seats.

The advantages are:

much less two-party duopoly (it's nigh on impossible for a single party to get over 50% so you must build a coalition if you want to govern).

every vote counts. No "Democrat in Texas" or "Republican in California" type scenarios.

Problems:

representatives are not directly elected, so in theory are less accountable (I don't really buy this)

the Big Two parties still take the lion's share of the vote because they have years of brand value and other incumbency advantage.

the small parties in the middle wind up holding the balance of power. So they often get to throw their weight around more than they should, which can cause some instability.
Problem with evaluating the USA electoral system is that there ain't one. No single system, anyway. We have many layers of incompatible systems, public and private. The USA political process operates in failure mode.

Don't ask me to design a perfect system. Not my job.

The Democrats and courts shit when Florida changed its early voting rules.

Before, early voting was two 5 day periods (M-F) where the polls were open from 7am till 5pm. No problem.

After, early voting is 8 straight days where polls are open 6am till 9pm. Democrats and judges went wild over the blatant racism.

Following the 2000 election debacle Florida eliminated re-counts. HRC gets what she gets.
