Was out shopping for the wife, alone cruising the deli isle next to the in store Starbucks. I noticed a lady slowing coming my way, and as she bent over, the silver chain slipped out of her blouse and a slender key dangled for a moment. She quickly tucked nto her blouse.

As she approached me, I locked eyes and said “May I see your key, the one on your necklace”. She froze in her tracks. I looked around both sides of us, in the isle. I said “That looks like an important key. Is its lock in use now?”

She nodded, silently. “How long has it been in use, this time?” She blushed again and said “Three weeks.”

“When were you going to use it next ?” I asked. Softly she said she was planning on using it in five weeks, but was getting great pressure at home to use it soon-this week.

I leaned in and said “You know it’s the rules-if I ask you must surrender it”. Blood drained from her face.
She stood, composed herself, saying nothing. My eyes bore into hers. She stared back, seemingly pleading with me. I said nothing. I waited. She continued to look into my eyes, and slowly, imperceptibly, began moving to remove her necklace. She cupped it in her palm and slid her hand over to me.
I looked at her and as she turned her hand over, passing the key into my hand, I said “40 days. Here. Mark the time. I will be here for 5 minutes-only”
She looked at me, half shock, half smile.
As she turned to go, I leaned over to her ear and said “Call him. Now”
