most of us have them, people we stopped thinking about as they were no longer in the headlines or in movies we watch, people whom--if we'd have given a thought to it at all--we'd have assumed dead

who's surprised you?

for me, it was michael j fox. i knew he'd been ill will parkinsons but recently saw him speaking out on tv and was surprised. my bad, michael!

Unfortunately for me, like my father who lived to age 96, most of the people I knew are long dead - especially former girlfriends.

I have one cousin, a few years older than me, but she has dementia and for the last decade hasn't even recognised her husband of sixty+ years nor her children and grandchildren.

.
I guess my mind doesn't work like that. I'm more of the "late to the party" type who is surprised someone I thought was still alive had passed.

*shrugs*

I can't be the only one with The Man Who Sold the World in my head right now.

I don't think Ryan Reynolds has time for a place like this. It takes a lot of time to fuck Blake Lively.

I had a boy I liked in grade school. We went though school together from kindergarten through 12th grade. Someone had told me he had died in a motorcycle accident. Was I surprised when he posted on a link for high school reunions. I was so glad he was alive. We chatted with a group of grade school friends. Then he died. Seriously, he died in his sleep. :(

Something similar here: went with my wife to her 10 year reunion, they had a moment of silence for the only member of her class who had passed away, put her picture up on a screen and everything.

....she walked in about 20 minutes later. Someone wrote the obligatory note under name badge "Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated".

:rose: sorry for your loss

how about celebrities, though? no-one taken you by surprise at appearing suddenly on the screen/in the news whom you'd imagined already dead long ago?

Three local people I know have died in the last month and a half... I guess there will not be anymore for a while now.

A woman in her 50's had a tree fall on her. A crack head who used to not be one died of pneumonia and a staff infection. And an old man died because he was old.

blimey!

I tend to skip the obituary pages in my local paper. Too often it is of people I know who are much younger than me.:(
