Well this morning started out nicely. A late wake-up followed by a phone call from the Bike Shop. We run down there and picked up the Carb. rebuild kit. (It finally came in.)
When e get home I decide not to play any more. I'm not going to do the Starting Fluid Test. Instead I just pull out the tool box and remove the carbs once more. (Third time.) It went amazingly quickly as did the rebuild.
Cool, all new jets and seals. The S.O.B. better work now.
The carbs are returned to their proper place and everything is checked. Oops, damn the Throttle Cable came free before I could tighten it up. Twenty minutes worth of quiet cursing and working in an area not designed for human hands and I have it hooked back up.
Now comes the test. I dig out the keys for the bike and a shorty screwdriver. It takes a bit before the bike starts. First I have to remember to turn the gas back on, then we have to wait for the Carb. Bowls to fill. Finally the bike fires.
It's running but number three isn't firing. I'm not overly surprised by this. I'm not even annoyed. I grab the screwdriver and reach under the carb to the Pilot Screw. Now starts the experiment and the hoping. I turn the screw in a small amount, rev the engine a touch and then check the pipe. By the third time I do this I hear a change in the engine sound and the pipe is starting to warm up. Okay now we're getting somewhere.
I take it in a bit more and the engine is sounding even better. No missfiring and the pipe is getting hot to the touch. Oh and I'm starting to grin. I keep playing with it, no doubt annoying my neighbors, until I get it to the point where it sounds right. While I'm doing this my wife wanders away.
When I'm about ready to shut down the bike my wife reapears. She's smiling and holding my Leather, Helmet, Gloves and Glasses. She hands these to me without a word. She knows me and knows what I'm needing. (Hell what I've been needing for the past couple of weeks.
Yep I took the bike down off the stand and took it for a bit of a ride.
Now I have to wait until Friday to check it out some more.
I do have to Synch. the Carbs but at least for now it seems to be running.
