As it happened, I stayed up all night working on a project of mine. And around 5am I went online to check my e-mail. I immediately found Feedback for a new story that was at last posted in the Loving Wives catagory as it were. Here's the feedback since it was sent annonymous:

I of course laughed at their niavity in thinking that this fictional story was somehow written from my own experiances, but I then went to look and see how the story was actually doing at around 5:30am. Amazingly it had 527 views already, with 11 votes averaging out at 3.09. Doing a little math I have come up with an apparent vote count of five 5 votes, three 1 votes, and three 2 votes. Which means that this story will never have a chance at wining this months contest in that particular catagory. No big deal as I haven't posted here as yet to win any monthly writing contests. But it does make me wonder who will win in this category this month. LOL Hell do they even post the winners on this site somewhere? It also makes me wonder if this same thing happened to my last story posted? I mean I'm satisfied with what I ended up with thus far on that story. Makes me wonder which catagory these snerts don't snip at? But I'm ranting. Anyway, I was just wondering, does this erk anyone else here?

I don't know about there being 6 snerts, a vote of 2 shows at least a little thought and precludes just being vicious.

So five 5s and three 2s gives something like 3.875, just a shade under fairly decent in my book.

The 1, 2 punch...

After lurking around this site now for several months before submiting my own work, I noticed in passing that Laurel sometimes gets rid of 1 votes, but never 2 votes. If the purpose is to dispoil, and conquer, then you'd have to hit a story not only with 1's but also 2's to keep it from ever tallying a descent score in time. Any who, that's my take on it. Just wondered if anyone else was interested. But probably not.

On the 15th of every month Laurel and Manu go through the stats and choose the top stories for each category for the previous month. They post the results in the Awards and Contests Board sometime in the next few days and a day or so later they post the top three winners in the same place.

As for worrying about the snerts (like that word) that's the way to give yourself an ulcer. I've found the best way to avoid the stress is to wait a week or two to check my stats. That way the numbers are big enough I can't figure out who voted what and it also seems to me that by that time I get an honest vote anyway.

Sounds like good advice. Thanks. I probably shouldn't have made a big thing out of it anyway since I'm a newbie here. Just wondered how everyone else thought on the subject. And now I think I know. Thanks everyone.

Don't worry apparently somewhere along the lines I pissed some one off. Because whatever snert attacked one of my stories went through the whole lot and slammed them. Each story, nearly eighty of them I think dropped down. It's funny sometimes I get upset when I think that some pathetic person does that for one reason or another.

In the end though it doesn't really matter, I write for my enjoyment and the enjoyment of the readers. I don't turn off the votes but they no longer mean the same thing they once did. Now they are just there, if I win a category fine. I haven't won a monthly contest or anything yet, always seeming to just fall short. I did win an end of the year contest though so that validated my writing here to me.

Just go with the flow and write for yourself and the pleasure you get from feedbacks DS, that's my only suggestion.

The same thing happened to me... Someone, obviously someone who had heard that my Hubby is black, send me an angry feedback about my poem "A Mother's Nightmare", asking if the father of my child was "that black monkey I had taken into my bed".

You would have expected stuff like that for a story in the incest or non-consent category, but I definitely didn't expect it from an Illustrated Poem - especially not when you look at the illustration in question...
