being labelled as war criminals and being carted off to the Hague to stand trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity...

Now that move would have my full support...

You must hate living in a country who's government supports the standpoint of the United States....bet it drives you to drink.

Well Blair has established a bolthole in Argentina as a quid pro quo for letting their erstwhile leader escape justice.
And if GWB's brother is the jury foreman, they'll twist the vote result again.

You're sooo wrong...

I hate being part of a country who's government supports the blatant, unjustified warmongering of another...

In this case it just happens to be the United States...

So please, think things through before shouting your mouth off...

Just for clarification, ppman, some questions.
How many decades should the U.N. give Saddam to comply?
Knowing his history, do you believe Saddam is amassing this stockpile of weapons of mass destruction as conversation pieces?

For answers see Blix's speech today...

Actually, I was hoping from something from you. Old ppman might be even less of an appeaser than Blix.
So, how many decades are you comfortable with in terms of Saddam getting around to complying with the U.N.?

It's open ended. He's well contained at the moment...

There's no proof he is stockpiling and the U2 flights due to start this coming week will no doubt confirm that. As I have no doubt satellite pictures have done already except that Bush hasn't chosen to release them...

Of course he's not stockpiling, silly. He's just giving the inspectors the run around because he's a genial trickster.

Blix doesn't think so, but then again who's Blix?

It's Einstein George's opinions that count...

This issue is of concern to many Americans. I think "we" as Americans tend to have at least some individual independent thought process. Many of us recognize that there are different opinions as to what and why the Bush administration is trying to do in Iraq. This is complicated by the President's own background and possible conflicts of interest he has in this situation. His connection to big "oil" business, his apparent need to "correct" what he percieves were mistakes by his fathers administration, and the strong "hawk" positions of many of his key people in his administration all result in speculation as to what his true motivation may be.

What further bothers me in much of all of this is that when the president make remarks that were not reviewed by his "handlers" we see "snapshots" of his true thinking that are somewhat revealing of his own thoughts. Remarks to the effect that ... this is like a re-run of a poor movie and I am tired of this... or I am a patient man... when he is obviously not... colors my view of him. It is like he wants a situation where he can say ..."make my day". The President is a man with a background of wealth and privilage, who appears to fully represent those of influence and privilage and money (tax cuts to the rich)... and he sees nothing wrong with that. He has tunnel vision and a "bull dogs" grip traits which may have been admirable when things were less complex.

I have no answers, however, I have seen war and know it needs to be taken seriously.

I agree with everything you say...

His true self is now well concealed by his handlers unlike when he first became President...

Say what you think PPman, just don't "Bush" up the edges and screw up your message.... be it right or wrong.

Well, in the same thread you've got from relying on what Blix says to totally discounting what he says. I'm sure there's a reason for that, perhaps one of convenience for you.
The president is not Einstein, but then I can't think of anyone who approached that level of genius.
I also happen to think the president is right in this situation, and everything Saddam has done in recent months convinces me all the more.

Try your fourth post on this thread, where you cite Blix.
Next, your sixth post on this thread seems to belittle Blix.

But that's OK, pp, you can have it both ways on Lit.

Well I know I haven't been drinking tonight...

The fourth post doesn't mention Blix at all and the sixth I cite his speech as a reply to a question...

Here's your fourth post on this thread, ppman. You know, the one where you didn't mention Blix.

But this is all a prelude to something much better.
ppman, you and I are going to team up to write a porn story about inspections. We'll swap paragraphs (I'll start), and I'll even give you top billing.
The thread title: Blix Pricks.
Reply in the affirmative if you're interested in this exercise of swapped paragraphs.

That's the sixth!

Before we collaborate in writing we'd better learn to count...

Haig: U.S. Will Defeat Iraq in 'Hours'

Former Reagan administration Secretary of State Alexander Haig predicted Friday that the U.S. ground war with Iraq would be over in less than a day.

"The ground phase will take hours," Haig told nationally syndicated radio host Sean Hannity, noting that his prediction didn't include the air war.

"(Saddam Hussein) is going to be gone probably before we get to the outskirts of Baghdad, which we shouldn't enter and don't have to and never did have to," Haig said.

The former NATO commander said that instead of conducting a bloody house-to-house battle to root out Saddam's loyalists, U.S. ground troops should blockade the city.

"All we have to do is surround it and starve it out," he told Hannity.

Haig said that before the ground troops land, the U.S. will unleash a "very, very powerful" bombing campaign that will be far more devastating than the one that began the first Gulf War.

Haig also predicted that "all this speculation about upheaval in the Middle East (after the U.S. attacks) is going to dissipate rather than grow as a result of the reestablishment of American credibility."
