The source of the leak was a Democrat staffer who requested the document and then leaked the one line to the NY Times in order to massage public opinion leading into the polls leading into the Foley attack which had been planned in advance of the election, a lot like Bush's invasion of Iraq...

the TRUTH is the Republicans admit that they have absolutely NO evidence that this staffer had anything to do with the leak. they took away his privilege to see classified material because the coincidence of him obtaining the intelligence estimate for his boss three days before the NYTimes got their hands on it seemed too much for them. the investigation continues to try to link the two events.
