If you were a fish, what kind of bait would a fisherman need to use to hook you on his line? And what kind of bait keeps you there?

In other words: What kind of things attract you to a particular person - a potential Dom/me or sub? And what keeps you coming back for more?

Do you swim in the shallow end, where the sun shines or are you more likely to be snared in the deep, mysterious waters?

I'm a musician...I go for groupers. What keeps me hanging around would be a nice looking grouper with a sweete little tail fin.

Attract? Surprises. Which usually means intelligence or creativity and cunning. Initially, especially, someone who is really interested in me, is not surprisingly, attractive. I'm a sucker for appreciation. Can't say the same things attract me all the time, but a wicked sense of humor will keep me coming back, though playfulness will hook me, too. It's hard to find both kinds of humor in the same person. Someone who at least occasionally has flashes of sharp insight.

It's been 24 years with the same man and he's the only person I've ever not gotten sick of. I just like to be around him all the time and don't know why. And he still catches me by surprise.

Ultimately, I think it's more chemistry than anything, once you get to physical contact. Before that, that it feels good being around the person.

Not gonna get into that whole fishy thing, as like Kajira, I'm a cat person. And, I'd found that often those deep-appearing, mysterious waters belonged to a tall silent type who turned out to be silent because he just had nothing interesting to say. And that the sunniest waters can have suprising depths. (Besides, I'm full of enough angst and complication for the both of us.)

Great thread, btw. Whether or not it's been asked before I haven't been around long enough to know but so often it's how you ask what you ask that can get to something deeper. Especially when you go all metaphorical on our asses.
Something about poetry and metaphor gets to a deeper level. That image cotton candy eater used about where the water dips has stuck in my mind. There you are going all casually and merrily in the water, walking at a gradual even pace when suddenly there's the point where the shelf drops down and your feet no longer touch solid known ground.
