I just got my 6th chapter of my gay story "The Summer of 2004" up and I've always received nice feedback.

Today in my email I see I got a response so I enthusiastically clicked it on. I wished I hadn't. About a hundred times the messages said "Death to all faggots."

That's just not right. You know what? I think I'll actually say a prayer for the person who wrote that. Whoever it is has some severe issues. He probably hates his own latent or not so latent homo tendencies.

Why else would he write that? Unless it's a teen. Kids say and do immature things.

Well, it was pretty damn disturbing to receive that. I'll get over it, though.

i get a few of those emails

but my topics are mfm, or a steam affair. it sucks and i dont know why people are so mean and rude. if they dont like gay sex, why read a gay story?

That's actually a funny point to me.

I have to wonder at someone's ability to read stuff they hate...

I mean if I THINK I'll dislike something, I'm going to go in the oppossite direction... but sure enough the haters just gotta get their faces all up in things they hate.

As the bear said "Admit it... you're not really here to kill me."

I've never gotten any feedback that extreme. In fact, feedback on my gay stories has always been highly complimentary, described as hot and helping the readers get themselves off. That, of course, is just what my intention is, for readers of any gender.

However, even though feedback is highly complimentary, voting is not. Most of my gay stories hover just above the 4.00 level, compared to the level of about 4.3 of all stories. Most of the stories portray the sex as being extremely casual, in a glory hole or the back of a porno bookstore or at a porno theater, where one man sucks off another without even saying hello to each other. In two of them, there was a semblance of a relationship between the men involved and these were fairly well received.

I wonder if that might be the problem. Do some gay men take offense at gay sex being portrayed as being so casual? I am well aware that there are some long-lived relationships between gay men but there are also many encounters like those I portray.

Don't give it any thought, though a prayer for that person does seem appropriate. I'm somewhat of an atheist (my spirituality is a little more complex than simply not believing in God), but even I know that "God's true nature" is supposed to be love. This is something that seems to be lost on most conservative Christians, who only seem to espouse hatred. The more liberal Christian groups (yes, they do exist, believe it or not) need to speak out louder these days.

That must be my old friend. Someone sent me "DEATH TO ALL POOFS." Charming.

Makes you wonder why someone with that attitude would be reading gay male stories. Doesn't that seem a little, I don't know ... gay?

The guy who read your story is probably just pissed coz you turned him on.

Or he/she/it is an idiot child.

Still, any type of threat is pretty horrible, electronic or not.

yeah, i've had that stuff, too

next time PLEASE have someone else read the story or at least a woman, this guy
sounds like Lesely Nelson.

Two questions arise. First, since the story was a man describing a sexual encounter with a woman, why should a woman read it, except maybe her dialogue?

 Second, who is Lesely Nelson?

Leslie Nielsen and Hate E-mails

Okay, I CAN tell you who is Leslie Nielsen.

He's an actor who's been working for at least half a century. In much of his career he played villains quite often (he's very smooth and has a reasonant voice, so if TV and film producers wanted someone wo be the leader of a criminal gang, they called on him). He also narrated commercials for Shell Oil and many other products.

In 1980, Nielsen took the role of a straight-faced doctor in the movie "Airplane!" who remained unflappable (except for some comic double takes) and while chaos went on around him. The movie was a big hit. The producers liked Nielsen and created a TV series called "Police Squad!" where he played a stone-faced, entirely clueless cop (his rank was different in every episode; every cop-show cliche' took a beating -- and he never noticed). "Police Squad" was yanked after four weeks. The producers thought it flopped because it was a TV show rather than a movie, got money together and put out "The Naked Gun," with Nielsen reprising the character and the wild site gags turned up a notch. They were right; the movie was a huge hit. Nielsen did two more "Naked Gun" movies and at least a dozen other similar spoofs. Most recently, he narrated a pizza commercial in a God-like voice. When the couple enjoying the pizza asked if the narration was necessary EVERY time they ate a pizza, the camera panned over to Nielsen, who asked: "Why not?"

Now to the hate E-mails. I am really sorry for you, Boxlicker. Homophobia is still a way of life in this country. A lot of people are afflicted with it in one way or another -- including my girlfriend, with whom I saw a play this past weekend. The play was an examination of what drove two maids in a wealthy woman's home to murder the employer and her daughter. The maids were sisters. The employer treated both as non-persons, apparently holding an aritstocratic belief in extreme class distinctions which she had held for 40 years and more, clinging to a way of life which the Great War and the Great Depression had rendered moot. The younger sister described having had sex with a nun in a convent and asked the older sister to re-create the moments -- apparently this molestation was the only real time she had ever been treated as a human, as yucky as that sounds. I tried to explain the plotline to my girlfriend, without much success. (The play was a revisiting of a real case, which had inspired several plays and films in France.)

I never read Gay Male stories because I don't swing that way; I do read Lesbian Sex stories, often because I don't WANT to see a guy in the story at all! If you want to see that as a bad joke, that's fine. But you may notice that porno after porno has F/F stories and scenes, including just about every mainstream porno movie and (until online took over) books. It may be a bad joke, but it sure is a pervasive one.

I am guilty of writing a venomous E-mail to an author not long ago. The author described a serial killer who lured certain types of women to his lair, where he tortured and killed them and added them to his collection (quite literally). I DID sign my name to the E-mail (I don't believe in hiding behind anonymity). The author, who had already responded to an anonymous comment, was quite angry with me, saying she had set out to write a horror story and that much worse could be found than that in the mass market (Stephen King, for example, or for that matter on the evening news). I gave a vindictive 1 vote to the story and told the author I'd never read anything by her again. The 1 vote is still there, but after long consideration (and after sending the story to a friend for comments -- the friend thought the story exceptionally well-written), I decided I really didn't want to make an enemy and extended an apology and hope that my friend and the story's author would also become friends.

Everybody has a hot button which sends him or her into real anger. That story mashed on mine. If we were all to withhold our stories because of the fear that they would offend somebody, the cure is much worse than the disease. I don't believe in withholding my feelings if something really hurts me, for that matter, but I strongly suggest that anonymous posters are abusing freedom of the press and that nobody should lash out at anybody else without taking time to think out the response, and probably not even then until throughly reading the offensive work and putting together a well-reasoned argument (and checking it with an impartial source).

This is a long response, but I've read some of boxlicker's stuff and like it, so I'll rise to this author's defense.

:) Although we all receive negative feedback criticizing our work in general, we also get highly complimentary comments. At least, I do, and I presume others do too. Here is one that just came in but I have deleted the lady's email address:

God I love your stories! They leave me dripping wet!!! I have large tits and
like how you focus part of your stories on that. I too can cum just by having
them sucked, licked and bitten. I really get off on the exhibitionism and
non-consent stories. Keep writing!!!

 I thought I would include this, which actually represents much more customary :cathappy: feedback for me, just for some balance.

It might just be my odd view of the world making me say this... but maybe the 'hate mail' was a joke? Now, obviously its a weird thing to suggest seeing as we don't know a thing about this person, but some people find it amusing to say crass or politically wrong things and find it even funnier when people take them seriously... its entirely possible I like this kind of humour... but, point is, I think its more absurd for whoever did that to have been serious than not serious. Just a thought.

hmm, yes, many possibilities arise...

There's also runing an email trace to find out what service it originalted from and then filing a complaint with their abuse depatrment. The bad thing is that typically 'free email' providers don't give a flying fuck. I did what with a spammer and FW the message to the abuse address for his provider. Then I got 3 times as much crap.

Also if there the person threatens you directly, you should contact your local police or FBI agency.

Most importantly what ever action you take, make sure to include all the "headers".

It's really terrible that you got this e-mail. Either the person is an immature child---or an idiot.

On the plus side, they didn't say that your writing was bad.

(Maybe they liked it, and that's why they were so pissed.) ;)

Boxlicker101: I find it wierd that you, a straight man write stories about gay sex... That's just extremely strange and I know that I might get burned for asking this question but are you perhaps bi-sexual? I meen I do love all of your stories but I havn't read the gay sex stuff yet. It just doesn't turn me on and am surprised that you do write about gay sex since you're straight.

I'm glad you enjoy the straight stories. The gay stories are somewhat sinilar in that they are pretty smutty.

I am primarily straight but in the last few years, I have also had gay sex and enjoyed being the bottom. I don't regard myself as gay and maybe not even bi because I do not lust after men at all. In the gym, I ogle women in clinging outfits but ignore men, except to envy their physiques. I do, however, enjoying doing some of the gay sex I describe. My gay stories are all about David, who is actually a married bisexual and in one of them he is involved with a woman (Melissa) and in another one he is involved in a threesome with a TS (Jill).
