Does the death of a general
Who waged asymmetric war
Mean conventional war for all
Or peace after talking more?

Trump makes more money when the economy is in flux,
didn't you realize this whole term was only about big bucks,
big headlines and bid egos.

Politics make my stomach churn
Conflict gives me heartburn
War is over if you want it
I'd love to turn you on.

I wish I could melt all of the crap I’ve ingested over the last 2 years and start again life’s easier when you’re living it not viewing it through adversarial us vs them mentalities where the attribution of the worst possible conclusion is projected onto the person you’re supposed to be talking to.

I can’t write anything anymore with out a jab at identity politics or my interpretation of it, I see used to be able to look at poetry and see the beauty of it now all I see is the politicizational messaging and possible adversarial positioning. I used to be able to read something or watch something and not see other hidden meanings or possibly my brain produces cognitive bias toward what I’m reading, I can understand why people embedded in full blown feminism and those fighting political battles are so angry all the time. It’s completely exhausting

By the way how are you going stranger?

Ten thousand fires blackened land down under
from ocean beach to highest mountain glade
politicians babble while country torn asunder
and I just had to look on my page Facebook

Tods I am so sorry for the terrible bushfires Australia is suffering. I pray you and your loved ones, your home and business too are all safe.

I used to think of myself as a political junkie. My political views have not changed a bit and I vote in every election, but I do not argue politics anymore. I'll go far out of my way to avoid that. Everything is so polarized here in America and people I've known most of my life, people who used to be civil and friendly are now at each other's throats, like they're on opposite sides of a civil war. I refuse to engage with that: I'm not going to change anyone but myself anyway, so what's the point?

I do not allow any of this to affect my relationship with poetry. I have written some political poems and likely will again, but it has never been my focus. Poetry is an escape for me, my happy place so I don't usually allow it to be invaded by the sorrows of the world. Personal sorrows are another story!

I'm slowly getting better. I have a lot of physical therapy ahead of me but I'm on the right track. My disability will not go away: there is no cure. It's all about learning to live as best one can within the limitations. I'm trying and am ever the optimist.

Stay safe dear friend and try to find your way back to writing poems that fulfill you.

Yeah she’s a pretty sight the orange glow of things on fire
But the preventative measures were blocked by greens activists
and farmers were fined a hundred grand for fire breaks built half a metre too wide. They had activists chained to trees in August and September preventing the winter burn offs from going ahead 300hectares were supposed to be cleared and burnt they were allowed to clear 3hectares... 1% of what they had allocated.

Dry twigs and sticks fuel loads 40 times denser than what was on the ground when the aboriginals had the land they were smart enough to burn it off and clear every two years
We regulated ourselves into the worst fires in history
Blame climate change for the extra heat but also blame the stupidity of the policies that prevented people from being able to regulate the land to minimise the damage...

Most of the fires were lit by arsonists not by natural causes,

The senior C.S.I.R.O advisor and expert that had studied Australian wild fires for fifty years released a report 3 years ago predicting this and the then Labour Government buried It and continued on sanctioning and regulating rural people’s abilities to be able to protect themselves. You can’t find any interviews of him on mainstream channels everything put up is “climate change” hysteria it’s as if it is the one and only reason, the government here are using it as a shield to hide behind their own failed policies.

Climate change may be one contributing factor however the fuel loading and arsonists are the main reason the fires are as damaging as they are.

I live about an hour drive from Kangaroo Island and 2 thirds of the island just went up in flames and is still burning, a few of my close friends and some of my friends children are over there as volunteers to help clean up, fight fires, deliver food, water and blankets etc. almost half of the wildlife on the island is toast and almost everyone has had to flee to the main towns some evacuating into small boats and others being evacuated onto cruise ships specifically sent there for the inhabitants safety, everything is covered in ash and smoke the whole of where we live reeks of it, a smoke haze in the back ground for upwards of 60 kilometres in all directions.

Our business has donated 5 thousand to the firefighters and sent over cases of bottled water onto the ferries as well as pledging to help with the rebuild once it begins, but the bigger problem is nothing is being done as far as I can see to roll back some of the regulations that caused the intensity of the fire to be what it is now.

I heard reports that the Victorian fires have emoted energy levels upwards of 40hiroshima Bombs and temps in the middle have exceeded 500 degrees Celsius. Throw another shrimp on the barbie or some shit like that.

Thanks tod, it is devastating situation but through the efforts of of you and other volunteers we see the underlying goodness of people and their willingness to help others.

On a smaller but still devastating level Canada had it's experience with the Fort McMurray fires in 2016 where again a combinations of natural and human factors were implicated. The same can be said of California's fires in the fall of 2019 and other years.

My blurb was not meant to diminish the seriousness of the situation but was intended more an observation of the weird combination of instantaneous knowledge and detachment from events that is at the core of the internet age.

Imps & Peaches

It’s still winter but the imps found the peaches and the fruit is rotten.

so sorry for all you aussie poets having to watch your beautiful country burning--priority is stay safe, this too shall pass. it must be heartbreaking to see homes, animals, landscapes so under attack. :(:rose::rose:

I am very sorry and concerned for all this destruction Tod. A few months ago was Brazil, now is Australia. You say that the main reason is the arsonists. Well, my country Greece is being burned every summer, so it fails even to surprise us anymore, and in some instances we've got some arsonists on camera, and in many cases they go unpunished. This is politics.
I think that poetry has got a lot to do with politics, and whether we like it or not, it does have, and perhaps we should make it a political tool of positive propaganda. We've got to fight back the destruction of our world with whatever tool we have in our disposal. Brecht did, Lennon did, Dylan did, why should we not?

I read that do gooders forced through a law preventing the clearing of scrub from around homesteads, that one man defied them, was given a hefty fine for doing so and his was the only house that survived.

Unintended consequences

An inadvertent missile launch
passenger pigeon aircraft down
one-hundred and seventy-six people dead
eighty-two Iranians
sixty-three – now fifty-seven Canadians
eleven Ukrainians
ten Swedes
four Afghans
three Germans
three UK citizens
but no American lives lost

Wet’suwet’en

There’s a line that’s not a line yet
natural gas waiting to be shipped
a world getting warmer every day
First People who’ve been
on the land forever.

Wet'suwet'en II

They say that under Mussolini
at least the trains were on time,
although after reading Levi
I’m not sure it makes up
for all the other “things.”

But here and now,
the trains have stopped,
not that I take the train
much, just for an occasional
trip to Montreal or Ottawa
and even then, the schedules
are such that it takes an extra
day and there are times when
I don’t have an extra day as
leap years are only one in four.

But I digress, right now,
all the trains are stopped
as the Indians have blocked
the tracks and nothing’s moving
which will affect the economy
and that’s not good if you’re
leading a minority government
and talking about both law
and reconciliation while the
leader of the opposition moans
about protester privilege whilst
trying to cover up the public
money that paid for his
kid’s private school fees.

Meanwhile in Alberta, some
redneck yahoos took down
the protester’s barricades and
in BC the Mounties are removing
barriers to construction of
a gas pipeline on unceded territory
which the Wet'suwet'en chiefs
claim contains sacred cultural areas,
as well as the Skeena headwaters
and the salmon spawning areas
which support their livelihood.

As we’re coming to realize,
reconciliation and assimilation
are not synonymous.

Interregnum

The feeling that you are on the edge
of a precipice, and although things
have been going downhill for a while,
this tis either the final drop or not.

You’ve cast your vote for hope
yet see darkness descending.

Mid-November

Periods of rain. Risk of a thunderstorm early this afternoon.
Wind southeast 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming south 40 gusting
to 60 this morning then southwest 60 gusting to 90 this afternoon.
High 10. UV index 1 or low.

Tonight Rain showers changing to flurries near midnight.
Snowfall amount 2 cm. Wind southwest 60 km/h gusting to
90 becoming west 40 gusting to 60 late this evening. Low zero.

Not quite sure how I feel about you doctoring my quote,

I do apologize for leaving out certain details.

How do you feel about:

Better to have a well-spoken British lifesaver
than some monosyllabic doc
or any voiceless undertaker

or

a man of unarmed cavalry
not there for just the majestic salary
showing some decent chivalry

or

a big leap for a man
a quantum jump for humanity
even though, a small step for any human, kind

or

Don't stop and stare
Undo your shoes and jump
Do save one of them non-fishes*

(*even though there is no official statistic, it's said a lot of Chinese simply can't swim)

(It's still Novemberrr, isn't it?)

Standing Up for the Little Guy

Bill 22 was just the start, we stand on guard
to maintain home food delivery at reasonable
prices during covid-19 isolation, and have
reduced our commission by 10% to 27%.
At the same time, we are also doing our best
to guarantee that your online purchases will
be delivered safely and arrive before the big day,
whatever the day is for your faith, as we are
providing masks and hand sanitizer for all our
employees, who are continuously monitored to
ensure appropriate protocols are followed and
to guarantee that your parcel is safe or their
employment is terminated without notice.

We feel your pain and thank you for your
small donation on checkout, which we will
then allocate to the designated charity.
Your contributions add up and help feed the
homeless, while the corporate charitable
donations credits reduce our taxes, freeing
up capital for drones and robotics which
streamline our workforce, reduce our payroll
and maintain dividends to our shareholders.
