Or at least I tried to...

I bought a subscription to the local paper a few weeks ago.

I stopped reading the paper, watching TV or listening to the news on the radio about a year ago, and have been quite happy in my ignorance.

But today, I figured that I would attempt to read the rag that litters my driveway each day...which is kinda odd as I only bought a subscription to the Sunday paper.

What I saw on the front page of each section just made me toss it to the side. So, I ended up looking at the coupons.

So, tell me folks....got any news for me that will not make want to rant and rave or lose faith (even more so) in society?

I remember when my Dad would visit me, he used to watch ALOT of christian channels. On one of the channels they had a nightly "Good" news program.

Thats what I want.

Good news.

Is there any out there?

Appalachian State University upset Michigan State in the college football opener. Fun news, unless you're a Michigan fan that is.

War Vets get Diplomas nearly 60 Years Later

Two Korean War veterans who served their country rather than finish high school nearly 60 years ago finally have their diplomas thanks to a change in state law. Carl Edwards and Arthur Flotow, both of whom are 77, were joined by relatives Sunday night when they received their framed high school diplomas during a special ceremony in Fort Wayne. Although diplomas were offered to veterans of World War I and World War II, the benefit was only extended to Korean and Vietnam war veterans in May after Governor Daniels signed new legislation into law. The diplomas presented yesterday to Edwards and Flotow at a Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge could be the first ones handed out in the state since the change took effect.

Ooooo...Boone NC....wonderful place to be. Wish I could be there for the foliage in about 2 months. :)

A new study prepared at Indiana University ,and conducted in Germany, has determined that when men choose a mate, they go for good looks.

A vigorous belaboring of the obvious--ain't science wunnerful? :D

(I warned you about those newspapers, Misty. They're only good for potty training pups and lining bird cages.) ;)

This made me cry...happy tears. Thanks.
You're welcome. You posted right after I left the one about the Vets and the diploma. I heard about the Shrimp boat one just as I was heading out the door.

Yeah, I was doing a good deed in buying the subscription.

I wonder if my 13.5 year old will warm up to a puppy?

Well, a good deed is....er...good! Even if it's a newspaper sub.

A kid and a pup are like peanut butter and jelly--they just go together.

They will be bud's in no time.

And they'll grow up together (the 1 to 7 rule applying). :D

My 13.5 year old is a cat. I guess I mistyped once again.

Ohhhhhh...a kittykat!

Hmmmm...now that's a different kettle of fish. ;)

I dunno...the pup wouldn't be a threat--and the cat can get away easily enough if playtime gets too boisterous.

I have seen the two animals get along famously. It would help if the kitty was a shade younger--might be some jealousy there.

What the heck. You can try it. The Pound's full of pups. You can have your pick.

Good luck. :D

How about this thought for good news... That the paper isn't twice as thick. Maybe it is the cynic in me, but for every article I read, or every story on the news, I realize there are a thousand other stories about society working the way it's supposed to work.

Oh, and British scientists have discovered a height gene, that when it is present it makes a person 1 cm taller than people without. Think about it, a whole centimeter. That almost counts in inches.

The interesting stuff usually isn't on page one. The stuff they don't want you to see is buried inside the paper. It's like a treasure hunt.

You can also learn things by reading the opinion page, especially if they give both liberal and conservative views on the same subject. The funny part in that excercise is comparing the conclusions, and observing the logic (or illogic) that lead to those conclusions.

Boris Johnson is the Conservative's front-runner for Mayor of London.

Now the contest is getting serious. ;)
