The Pope must die, says Muslim
18.09.06

A notorious Muslim extremist told a demonstration in London yesterday that the Pope should face execution.

Anjem Choudary said those who insulted Islam would be "subject to capital punishment".

Should the Pope have apologised for his remarks? Vote here

His remarks came during a protest outside Westminster Cathedral on a day that worldwide anger among Muslim hardliners towards Pope Benedict XVI appeared to deepen.

The pontiff yesterday apologised for causing offence during a lecture last week. Quoting a medieval emperor, his words were taken to mean that he called the prophet Mohammed "evil and inhuman".

He insisted he was "deeply sorry" but his humbling words did not go far enough to silence all his critics or quell the violence and anger he has triggered.

A nun was shot dead in Somalia by Islamic gunmen and churches came under attack in Palestine.

Choudary's appeal for the death of Pope Benedict was the second time he has been linked with apparent incitement to murder within a year.

The 39-year-old lawyer organised

demonstrations against the publication of cartoons of Mohammed in February in Denmark. Protesters carried placards declaring "Behead Those Who Insult Islam".

Yesterday he said: "The Muslims take their religion very seriously and non-Muslims must appreciate that and that must also understand that there may be serious consequences if you insult Islam and the prophet.

"Whoever insults the message of Mohammed is going to be subject to capital punishment."

He added: "I am here have a peaceful demonstration. But there may be people in Italy or other parts of the world who would carry that out.

"I think that warning needs to be understood by all people who want to insult Islam and want to insult the prophet of Islam."

As well as placards attacking the Pope such as "Pope go to Hell", his followers outside the country's principal Roman Catholic church also waved slogans aimed at offending the sentiments of Christians such as "Jesus is the slave of Allah".

A Scotland Yard spokesman said of his comments: "We have had no complaints about this. There were around 100 people at the demonstration. It passed off peacefully and there were no arrests."

Larger Islamic groups in Britain said they accepted the Pope's apology. Inayat Bunglawala of the Muslim Council of Britain said: "The Vatican has moved quickly to deal with the hurt and we accept that.

"It was something that should never have happened - words of that nature were always likely to cause dismay - and we believe some of the Pope's advisers may have been at fault over his speech."

Yesterday's sermon by the Pope was the first time a pontiff has publicly said sorry.

He said he regretted Muslim reaction to his speech and stressed that the quotation did not reflect his personal opinion. Anger and violence - including attacks on seven churches in the West Bank and Gaza - have characterised one of the biggest international crises involving the Vatican in decades.

The Pope appeared determined to move quickly to try to defuse the anger but the fury of many radicals was unabated last night and there were fears for his safety.

Iraqi jihadists issued a video of a scimitar slicing a cross in two, intercut with images of Benedict and the burning Twin Towers.

The website run in the name of the Mujahedeen Army, used by extremist groups who have claimed responsibility for attacks in Iraq, was addressed to "You dog of Rome" and threatened to "shake your thrones and break your crosses in your home".

In a reference to suicide bombing, it said: "We swear to God to send you people who adore death as much as you adore life."

The threat of violence against Catholics and Christians was emphasised by the murder of an Italian nun in Somalia. Sister Leonella, 66, was shot as she walked from the children's hospital where she worked to her house in Mogadishu, a city recently taken over by an Islamic government.

A Vatican spokesman said he feared her death was "the fruit of violence and irrationality arising from the current situation".

Father Frederico Lombardi said he hoped it was an isolated event. "We are worried about this wave of hatred and hope it doesn't have any grave consequences for the Church around the world," he said.

The murder suggested that extremists are determined to use the Pope's embarrassment as an excuse for violence.

In Turkey, state minister Mehmet Aydin said the Pope seemed to be saying he was sorry for the outrage but not necessarily for his remarks.

"You either have to say this, 'I'm sorry' in a proper way or not say it at all," he told reporters in Istanbul.

There were fierce denunciations of the pontiff from Iran. The English-language Tehran Times called his lecture in Bavaria last week "code words for a new crusade".

The powerful cleric Ahmad Khatami told theological students in the holy city of Qom: The "Pope should fall on his knees in front of a senior Muslim cleric and try to understand Islam."

But the Turkish government signalled it was content and that the Pope's visit to the country in November can go ahead.

In his sermon yesterday at the Papal summer residence of Castel Gandolfo outside Rome, Benedict spoke amid strengthened security.

He said: "I am deeply sorry for the reactions in some countries to a few passages of my address at the University of Regensburg, which were considered offensive to the sensibility of Muslims.

"These in fact were a quotation from a medieval text, which do not in any way express my personal thought. I hope this serves to appease hearts and to clarify the true meaning of my address."

No other Pope is thought to have made such an apology.

No longer will I believe any Muslim. More and more they rally to the cause. You're not going to tell me they're ALL extremists. Even the ones living in America. Oh sure, they'll keep nice and quiet like they are now because in their hearts they agree but don't want to screw up their sweet lives here.

But if they disagreed they'd be marching in the streets denouncing this bullshit. I've known for some time we've been living in the end times. This is going to be the start of WW3. I believe its already started. Its just going to get progressively worse. And I guarantee it will culminate in our lifetime.

Not really much we can do about it unless our weak minded govt officials start thinking rationally and stop playing politics. But I don't see that happening until a nuke goes off in one of our cities. And even thats probably wishful thinking.

By the way, there was a poll on this UK site regarding whether the Pope should have apologized or not. 63% said no. Looks to me like people are finally starting to get fed up.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled playtime.

"We want an apology!!!!"

ok, I apologize, even though I think you're taking things out of context

"Your infidel apology is not enough"

Fear.. the end of the world is coming.. fear.. be afraid.. the muslims are coming.. Give me a fucking break!

Yes, berate an entire religion based on the actions of a few fucking fanatics. We're talking less than 1 in every 43,000 Muslims here.

Whats the ratio of Catholic priests that have been involved in sexual misconduct? Should we deplore the entire religion based on those few?

Hey, I'm no fan of Islam either, but there are way better reasons to hang them out to dry than this.

I'm not basing my assessments of the Muslim faith on this guy.

How would you feel if ALL of Christianity were based on these guys?

You just don't get it do you?

I'm not going to change my attitude or behavior towards any person of ME descent. I judge people on their behavior not their religious beliefs.

But the sheer fact that you don't see the writing on the wall just proves how truly blind you are to whats going on in the real world around you.

Thats fine. You'll wake up sooner or later.

Unfortunately, I can't side with you completely on this.
I've spent a lot of time in Mosques over the past eight years and I have seen some fundamental shifts in the underlying theologies, especially in the younger people.
Immediately following 9/11, the Mosques were full of timid, withdrawn worshippers. They saw the way the wind was blowing and they kept a low profile.

Then there was a period of reconciliation, a time of healing. But that was during the "good days" of the Iraq war, Saddam had been caught, Baghdad had been neutralized. But as the war ground on, as casualties mounted, as tensions in Palestine and Lebanon increased, I saw another shift.

Muslim youth were getting restless, tired of being told to shut up and sit down. They began to gravitate towards more radical imams and more militant mosques.

There's a groundswell of discontent out there. Ignoring it isn't going to make it go away.

Once again, you have no fucking idea what the hell you're saying.

All religions are the same, they have their nutters and then there's everyone else. Ok, granted the muslims seem to do more of the actual killing when it comes to religion.

I really can't recall the last time anyone talked shit about Christianity or Catholicism (and it happens every fucking day) and someone went off about it and threatened violence. Can you?

Pope John Paul II was shot and nearly killed in the early '80's by a moslem fundamentalist with ties to fanaticism.
When the pope recovered he gave his blessing to his assailant...said he prayed for his soul.
A catholic nun has been killed since this current pope's remarks and catholic and orthodox churches have been torched in the middle east.
The pope prays for the soul of his assailant...and the fanatics murder a nun for something she didn't say.
What about this is hard to understand?

Exactly (don't roll your eyes). The only question is how many lunatics versus how many good Muslims.

True, and I agree. I don't see how I gave the impression to you guys (atmas) that I'm sticking up for muslim fundamentalists or something. And I conceded that when it comes to religious nutters the muslims are the ones that do the killing. I'm simply saying all religions have their extremists and just because there's a lot of muslim extremists, doesn't mean that they're all like that. That's similar to what you said yourself isn't it?

It's cool though, I'm used to being misunderstood. There's something about me that makes people want to have a go even when I'm agreeing with them. Maybe it's little Kyle there in my AV.

I didn't misunderstand you. And I wasn't being sarcastic.

And I will roll my eyes Mecha. Because what I'm starting to see is a problem with Islam. Yeah I've heard all the rhetoric about it being a peaceful religion and all that crap. But the only Muslims I see remaining peaceful are the ones here for reasons which I stated above. Because they know Americans aren't going to tolerate the crap they pull in Europe and Asia.

The first time Mustaffa starts chanting Kill The Pope over here Bubba is gonna go upside his head with a fucking baseball bat. And that'll be the end of that.

The only reason it won't happen here is because our schools don't teach hate like the do in Muslim countries. Plain and simple fact of the matter is cut the head off the snake you solve the problem.

I love this. The UN attempting to micromanage the war. This is a prime example of why the UN is completely useless.

Israel cluster bomb use in Lebanon "outrageous": UN

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Israel scattered at least 350,000 unexploded cluster bomblets on south Lebanon in its war with Hizbollah, mostly when the conflict was all but over, leaving a deadly legacy for civilians, U.N. officials said on Tuesday.

"The outrageous fact is that nearly all of these munitions were fired in the last three to four days of the war," David Shearer, the United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Lebanon, told a news conference in Beirut.

"Outrageous because by that stage the conflict had been largely resolved in the form of (U.N. Security Council) Resolution 1701," he said.

The resolution adopted on August 11 halted 34 days of fighting three days later. A truce has largely held since then.

Israel denies using cluster bombs illegally.

A U.N. fact sheet said the figure of 350,000 unexploded bomblets was based on reports by Israeli soldiers, and excluded cluster bomb firings by conventional artillery or aircraft.

Chris Clark, manager of the U.N. Mine Action Coordination Center of South Lebanon, said the cluster bomb threat in the south was "extensive and, in my opinion, unprecedented."

While Israel has provided general information about where it believes unexploded ordnance might be, Clark said tactical maps given to the United Nations by Israeli forces withdrawing from the south were "absolutely useless" in clearance efforts.

"We have asked through many channels for the headquarters of these units to provide detailed strike data," he told a briefing at the United Nations in Geneva. "It has not yet been received."

FAILED TO EXPLODE

The United Nations has so far identified 516 cluster bomb strike locations and says 30 to 40 percent of the bomblets they scattered over the south failed to explode at the time.

Only about 17,000 bomblets have been defused so far and the United Nations says clearance work could take up to 30 months.

Shearer said cluster bombs had killed or wounded an average of three people a day since the war ended, with 15 killed, including a child, and 83 wounded, of whom 23 are children.

Clearance efforts have so far focused on villages, schools and playing areas, but will soon shift toward farmland, which provides 70 percent of household incomes in the south, he said.

"The cluster munitions are stopping farmers from getting out to their fields and resuming their farming activities," he said.

Cluster bombs have been found on the ground and hanging on barbed-wire fences and trees, including in citrus, banana and olive groves, Clark said. They have also turned up in the rubble of destroyed buildings, complicating reconstruction efforts.

Human rights groups have criticized Israel and Hizbollah for indiscriminate attacks on civilians in the fighting that began after the guerrillas captured two Israeli soldiers on July 12.

Shearer said it "defied belief" that so many cluster bombs were fired in the last hours of the war.

I wonder what they're gonna say when Iran launches a tactical nuke against Israel?
You can retaliate, but only between the hours of 10-12, on the third Saturday of the month, when its cloudy???

You really missed the point, didn't you?

If 100 of the 43000 Muslims protested against these fanatical retards, and demanded they be brought to justice, that they be rooted out and executed, there would be no fundamentalist radical Muslims.

Peace be with you..............

Danni Bonadouche misses the point everytime. But then he lives in Utopia and has a Kumbaya bbq every day.

Islam is a religion of peace. The Fanatics in it are few, powerless and harmless. I feel perfectly safe with Muslim fanatic facists in charge of modern day nation states, with modern day nation state financial abilities and scientific capabilities.
