Try Western Union. My family has sent/received money that way around the globe. Paypal is another option if that's practical for the recipient.

To a person in australia with a bank account?

I've sent money to people in the US, Australia, Japan and Italy.

I went to my local bank and said "I want to send money to this bank account in Australia".

Signed a paper, payed a fee. That was pretty much it.

I've also done that, but it isn't instaneous. It can take up to a week or more for some strange reason.

Western Union claims to be immediate.

Took 1 day. Except one time when it took 3 days. So no it wasn't fast. But it was easy and I was in no hurry.

Never done the Western Union thing. Where does the money get delivered?

Any number of businesses who affiliate. All it needs is a dedicated computer provided by WU and some paperwork. Everything from backwater grocery stores to casinos have WU capability. The person receiving the money just has to find one nearby and tell the sender what city they'll pick it up in.

Never had any troubles, and I've wired money all over bloody creation. The online site is a pain in the ass, but the physical locations are reliable.

besides western union (which would be my first choice) You can always use paypal to send money

If it's practical, going to your bank and having money wire transferred from your bank to the bank of the recipient is the simplest. It's also pretty expensive to both of you. WU isn't cheap either, and you need to hsve the money with you, unless you can use an ATM card or a credit card. If you use one of these, the amount might be more than you are allowed to withdraw like that, or a larger cash advance than you are allowed.

We used to send money to the Philippines through Pan Asian Currency Exchange, and it was cheap and quick, and cash was delivered to the recipient. I don't know if you can send money to Australia through them or not.

Let me know if I can be of any assistance, since I'm in Oz. All I can think of is bank transfer or paypal, like everyone else. Some US banks have close ties with some Oz banks, so maybe approach some of them? For eg, I know there is HSBC in the UK and Oz.
