Well in Australia you could get a double room for a single night in a 'flag inn' type motel for approx $18...nearly double it for American dollars.

I only know this because my parents kept a reciept from one of their weekends away, we found the reciept the other day while cleaning out an old suitcase.

Tell me about it we recently paid $350 AUD for a night in a 5* hotel just a few weeks ago.

Motel 6's started out as just that $6.99 a night. Super 8's came along a little later I think at $8.99. Holiday Inn, Ramada and main stream motels were in the $18 to $30 night range.
