The way I do it is to put on the radio or tv and look for song's I like then make a note of them for later down loading.

Which format is better to have your songs in? MP3 or WMA? I just read something that says that WMA format sounds as good as MP3 at half the bitrate, and a smaller file size. I'm confused now. (what else is new?)

I don't know that I'll bother writing any direct reccomendations . . . I listen, for the most part, to indie rock and I haven't met anyone on this board that's into that. However, I do suggest that you go to the cdnow website (www.cdnow.com)--I don't work for cdnow or anything and it doesn't matter to me if they sell CDs or not, but they have a number of useful features for finding new music. If you look up a band or artist you like, you can cross-reference similar artists or see what people who have bought a particular CD have also bought. I have stumbled across more new bands this way . . . of course, my bank account has suffered drastically as a result, but that's pretty much the idea behind it. Then, if you find something you like, just go hunt for it on Napster.
