I need thought-provoking help

The first "chapter" (I use the word loosely) of my story has 3,102 words and I need help polishing it. I detest grammatical and punctuation errors in the stories I read and have no desire to inflict this on my readers (should I be so blessed to have any, natch). Is there anyone with enough time on their hands willing to help out a literary virgin?
