Hi All.

I have heard rumours of Ghost In The Shell 2, but am having trouble finding stuff about it (mainly because i suck at websearches).

Is this a movie or is it the next series of comics?

Anyone have a link or 6 for me to go check out?

thanks in advance for any information.

Ghost in the Shell 2 - Man/Machine Interface - Released June 28th, 2001, in Japan, is Masamune Shirow's newest Ghost in the Shell work - Ghost in the Shell 2 (Koukaku Kidoutai 2) "ManMachine Interface". It is 304 pages long and half of the pages are in color. Here's a couple of pages below just to wet your appetite.

Looking at the pictures in the book, Major Kusanagi is back, and apparently back in a female cyborg body. If you remember, at the end of the original "Ghost in the Shell" book, she fuses her ghost (soul?) with The Puppeteer (an AI that was spontaneously generated in the vast cybersea of information that has been created in all the world's computer networks). She has to make a break with Section 9, and escape. Batou helps her, by removing her brain and spinal column (the only human part left in her cyborg body), and placing it in a new cyborg body (that he had to liberate from it's previous owner - who was a thief and probably a murderer). That body was rather androgenous, but ended up being male, much to Batou's surprise once he learns of his faux pas.

Now Major Kusanagi is back in a body that looks like her original body in "Ghost in the Shell". I can't tell you what is going on but she appears to spend a lot of time in cyberspace with another female protagonist. Whenever they are in cyberspace, they are nude, but lacking in secondary sexual features, so that they look like a couple of undressed Barbie dolls in this cyberworld. Near the end of the book it looks to me like Major Kusanagi's/The Puppeteer's ghost is getting cloned into hundreds of copies. I wanna be able to READ IT! WAAAA!
Actually Toren Smith, of Studeo Proteus fame, reports in his Studeo Proteus, Feb. 2001, Manga Newswatch column, that Studeo Proteus is working in conjunction with Matsumune Shirow and Dark Horse to produce a translated version of Man/Machine Interface. Actually, since some of the action would be too controversial by American mass market standards, a toned-down version would be sold via Diamond Distributor's mass market catalog, and a XXX version that is even more graphic than the Japanese one will be available via the Diamond's Adult Supplement. As per Studio Proteus' main page, they are hoping to release the first issue of MMI, in Oct. 2002. There is also apparently a GITS2 movie in the works, and a TV series.
