I just bought a new printer/scanner/copier yesterday and did not know that I needed something called an USB cable. What is a USB Cable? Where does the darn thing plug into in the back of the puter? Why can't it use a regular printer cable like my old one? And where can I get this cable? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:confused:

A USB cable is just another type of cable, different from the rest--just like your computer's video cable looks different than your power cables or your old printer cable.

A USB cable only connects to a USB port. A port is the connector located somewhere on the computer case, usually in the back with the rest of the cables. USB ports are common on newer computers and equipment, but you will not find a USB port on many older computers. You can purchase a USB cable almost anyplace that sells computer equipment.

Check the box that your copier came in for extra cables.

The USB standard cable is meant to replace many different types older cables so that there would be less confusion, but some newer equipment manufacturers assume that you have a newer computer with a USB connection.

If you do not have a USB connection on your computer, you will need to purchase an expansion card for your computer that will provide this connection.

It is also possible that you may be able to connect your printer to a networking card with another type of cable called an ETHERNET cable, if you have a networking card on your computer.
