I feel like such an idiot. I missed St. Patrick's day, my first year living in South Boston. I had the flu last week, and was basically out of it Tuesday-Friday. Since I'm no the sort of person who remembers these kinds of things on his own, and I wasn't in the office to have people remind me by asking, "What are you doing on St. Patty's day?" that meant I didn't remember.

Oh, until I went to the movies today and was confronted by a parade half a block from my condo. Even then I thought I might be alright, because it's the 17th, right? Nope, not this year.

Probably just as well. If I'd gone out last night, I would probably have a relapse or catch something else.

St. Pat's isn't one of those floating holidays. March 17th is March 17th. It's tomorrow.

Well, the first web site that pops up when I googled St. Patrick's day said that the Catholic's moved it because it fell during Holy Week. Which it has done before. Of course, maybe they are only referring to the religious celebration rather than the drinking and pretending to be Irish celebration.

My Guinness loving half-irish Dad, and my even more Guinness Loving and quarter (eighth?) Irish fiance insist its tomorrow.

Wanna join us getting rat arsed?

Officially, if the Saints day falls during Holy Week it is moved. This is not new, it has been that way for a few hundred years as I understand it.

... but my catholicism is a little bit out of date... like, 26 years or so...

So is that the party St. Pat's or just the religious part?

the "official" part of St. Patricks IS the religious part, of course... As for the party angle... now why would bar owners and party people want to take a holiday OUT of the middle of the week and put it on a weekend?

Monday's hardly the middle of the week. I'm going to a St. Patrick's Day party tomorrow--it's sort of a company party (my husband's company). Only bad thing about it is, that as early as it starts, he, I, and our son will have to go there in three separate cars.

Happy St. Patricks Day!

two for one sale get drubnk on Saturday and again today :D

There's a religious part? You wanted to go to church or something? Why? What's that?
