I was just thinking how the new Dead just isn't the same with out JerBear off to the side smiling and just having fun. The Grateful Dead didn't tell you how to live, but just to spend an evening with them playing music and having a good, peaceful time. If you wanted to tape their concert they would set an area up front so you could get a good recording. Their only condition was that if you made copies of them, you would not sell them, but give them away. How many of the phony bands out there would dare to do that with their "protected by law, copyrighted" music?

*Anyway, this is the song that gets me through the rough spots in this dance in the sun we call living............

"It must be getting early
Clocks are running late
Paint by numbers morning sky
Looks so phony

Dawn is breaking everywhere
Light a candle, curse the glare
Draw the curtains, I don't care
'Cause it's alright

I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive

I see you got your list out
Say your piece and get out
Yes I got the gist of it
But it's alright

Sorry that you feel that way
The only thing there is to say
Every silver lining's got a
Touch of grey

It's a lesson to me
The Ables and the Bakers and the C's
The A B C's
We all must face
And try to keep a little grace

I know the rent is in arrears
The dog has not been fed in years
It's even worse than it appears
But it's alright

Cows are giving kerosene
The kid can't read at seventeen
The words he knows are all obscene
But it's alright

I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive

It's a lesson to me
The Deltas and the East and the Freeze
The A B C's
We all think of
And try to keep a little love

The shoe is on the hand it fits
There's really nothing much to it
Whistle through your teeth and split
'Cause it's alright

Oh well a touch of grey
Kind of suits you anyway
That was all I had to say
And it's alright

I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive

We will get by
We will get by
We will get by
We will survive"

*What's your song that gets you by? :D

Ripple is my favourite

Simple acoustic melody - great harmonies and a real feel that the song was about a better time

Ripple....yeah, a good one........

Ripple

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
Would you hear my voice come thru the music,
Would you hold it near as it were your own?

It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken,
Perhaps they're better left unsung.
I don't know, don't really care
Let there be songs to fill the air.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
If your cup is full may it be again,
Let it be known there is a fountain,
That was not made by the hands of men.

There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

But if you fall you fall alone,
If you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home.

La dee da da da, La da da da da, Da da da, Da da, Da da da da da
La da da da, La da da, Da da, La da da da, La da, Da da.

Here's a song for the times........

Blues For Allah

Arabian wind, The needle's eye is thin, The ships of state sail on mirage,
And drown in sand, Out in no-man's land where Allah does command.

What good is spilling blood? It will not grow a thing;
Taste eternity the swords sing: Blues of Allah In 'sh'Allah.

They lie where they fall, There's nothing more to say,
The desert stars are bright tonight lets meet as friends,
The Flower of Islam, The Fruit of Abraham.

The thousand stories have come round to one again,
Arabian night, Our Gods pursue their fight,
What fatal flowers of darkness bloom from seeds of light.

Bird of paradise fly in white sky, Blues for Allah In 'sh'Allah,
Let's see with our heart, These things our eyes have seen,
And know the truth must still lie somewhere in between.

Under eternity, under eternity, under eternity blue,
Bird of paradise fly in white sky, Blues for Allah In 'sh'Allah.

Bombs away! :D

I'm sorry, but I had gotten over the dead by the end of the 70's...

Did you get to Alpine???

If you did you saw the Band again. Of course it isn't the same with out Jerry but the feeling was there!! I miss Jerry every day his guitar and voice have filled many holes in my soul, and i miss that feeling. I have moved on and I have a nice regular life now, but i miss the road all the time. There was no better times in my life than getting to a summer show seeing the lot filled with people who smiled all the time. The hugs and the well wishing, so many great times. The Other Ones are as close as we can get on this plane, and they are worth the time and price of the ticket, just to bring back the feelings.

I hope you try to get to one of the shows this fall they wont dissapoint you, as long as you set your expectations where they should be. The leader of the band may be gone but the Music never Stoped
