Well hold off with the parties.

I may be gone for a couple of days. I'm setting up a new computer and it may be a few days before I return here.

It hasn't been too much fun pulling files from my desktop, but it has been interesting to see just what has been collected here. (It has only taken me three days and about a dozen disks to save what I wanted.)

I'm going to a laptop with a rather large external Hard Drive for archiving. This will save me a lot of room as well as giving me the ability to move around the Trailer while I'm working.

Would you believe I had seven CD's worth of nude pictures?

I won't even tell you how many stories I found that were started and not finished.

The next step is to open and print my favorites links. That should take a few pages.

It was a lot of fun arguing with AOL. I had set up my account with them several years ago on this computer. As I moved I carried my account with me. Unfortunatly along the way I lost the hardcopy of my Password. They didn't want to give me a copy of the password. I finally, after much haggling got the password so now I can continue to use this account with the new computer.

Well that is that. If you don't see me around for a few days don't be surprised.

see you soon, Cat. i have total faith that you wont be gone long if you are gone at all.

some kids love the smell of new crayons, i love the smell of new puters.mmmmm

You use AOL? Ugh. I've just lost all future sympathy for you if your computer crashes or dies horribly, screaming "I've been poisoned by overbearing, self-important and unnecessary software!!!"

Surprise, surprise, surprise.

I'm back here once again.

Needless to say I am happy that the upgrades didn't take as long as expected to get done.

I finally got everything off the old computer. It is now sitting in a closet and looking a bit forlorn.

Let's see. 7 Disks of porn to add to the 17 on the shelf.
3 Disks filled with stories I have started but not finished.
10 disks filled with historical information, to add to the two dozen on my shelf.
One hell of a headache.

I still have a bit to do. I have to add my printer to this computer. I have to add a trackball. (I can use the touch pad but I'm not fond of it.) I still have to connect my web cam. I also have about half a dozen programs I have to load in.

But I'm back on the Internet.

Cat

Well,

The Trackball and printer are installed. The webcam is being a bi balky, but that's because it's a dinosaur.

I find I have much more room on my desk now that the old CPU and Monitor are in the closet in the back room.

At first I was having a problem with typing. The laptop sits on top of the desk so the keyboard is higher than I'm used to. This was causing me muscle problems in my neck until I remembered my chair is adjustable in height.

One thing the cats, Squeek in particulr don't like about this set up. She loved the Monitor, it was nice and warm and she loved to lay on it. She can't do that with this set up.

I now have to install programs. One thing I had on the old system but don't have on this one is Nortons Firewall. I'll have to go out and get that.

Hmmmmmmm, must dig out speakers and hook them up.

My old monitor had great speakers built in. The speakers in this laptop leave something to be desired when listening to music.

Welcome back the nutty bin, Cat.

I'll bet. But it would be hilarious to see her try. :D

If you want your system to run half speed, go right ahead.

So what would be a good firewall?

Honestly, I have no idea. All I know is that I used to have Norton and my computer would start to creak from just starting up. All my geek friends (or at least those who are not geeky enough to run Linux, but still geekier than me) run Zone Alarm Pro. So I guess that's not half bad.

I have a router w firewall. Stops all crap.

Okay so I'll have to check out Zone Alarm.

Right now I don't have a router or any of that fancy stuff. (Give me time.) I'm existing on a dial up Modem. (So I'm cheap. I refuse to pay what Smell South and Adelphia want for their high speed connections.)
