I love pointless holidays

Tomorrow I don't have to work. You know why? It's Brooklyn-Queens Day, otherwise known as Aanniversary Dday!


To me this is the BEST holiday. Only public school teachers who work in Brooklyn or Queens have off. I call it a freebie day, because I can go almost anywhere and I guarrantee you it won't be crowded. Zoos, parks, amusement parks, the beach, etc....

Of course, it's supposed to thunderstorm so I'm just going to catch up on bills and paperwork (oh yeah, and I will probably have a daytime fuck tomorrow- yay!). I look at it this way though- I'm able to do all of that stuff tomorrow so that I don't have to do it over the weekend (the exception being the fuck- it's perfectly fine by me if I get fucked over the weekend as well).




So do you have any pointless holidays in your area that you may or may not have the day off for? What are they, and do you like them?

it changes each year, but for us Monday 10th June is the Queen's Birthday long weekend.

None come to mind, although there is that old BC comic, where they're exchanging messages by floating them on the tide.

1) Over here we have a holiday to honor our dead.

2) That's Great!

3) But, we always do it on a monday so we can get a long weekend out of it.

We just had two days off in England....becuase the Queen has been on the throne for Fifty years........

A pointless holiday but made a nice four day weekend that coincided nicely with the world cup and the pubs opening early.....nice!

not sure about in other countries, but here "the throne" is also slang for the toilet.....

kind of takes on a whole new meaning when you say you had "two days off because the queen had been on the toilet for 50 years"
