BARENAKED LADIES LYRICS

Too Little Too Late

You say, "Why does everything revolve around you?"
You say, "Why does everything I do confound you?"
You say that I pulled the world from under you,
You can't go through it this time

And I could be good, and I would - If I knew I was understood
And it'll be great, just wait - Or is it too little too late?

One day, this embarrassment will fade behind me
And that day I could think of things that won't remind me
But these days it's unbearable for both of us
We can't discuss it this way

I'm gaining strength, tying to learn to pull my own weight
But I'm gaining pounds at the precipice of Too Late
Just Wait

I could be good, and I would - If I knew I was understood
And it'll be great, just wait - Or is it too little too late?

Record and play, after years of endless rewind
Yesterday wasn't half as tough as this time
This time isn't Hell,
Last time, I couldn't tell
This mind wasn't well
Next time, hope I'm...
Going to be good, and I would -
If I knew I was understood
And it'll be great, just wait -
Or is it too little too late?
Good, and I would -
If I knew I was understood
And it'll be great, just wait -
Or is it too little too late?

You mean there is a band named that too?

I was lured here under false pretenses!!!!

;)

Call And Answer
Words & Music by Stephen Duffy & Steven Page

I think it's getting to the point
where I can be myself again
I think it's getting to the point
where we have almost made amends
I think it's the getting to the point
that is the hardest part.

And if you call, I will answer
and if you fall, I'll pick you up
and if you court this disaster
I'll point you home

You think I only think about you
when we're both in the same room
You think I'm only here to witness
the remains of love exhumed
You think we're here to play
a game of who loves more than whom

And if you call, I will answer
and if you fall, I'll pick you up
and if you court this disaster
I'll point you home

You think it's only fair to do what's
best for you and you alone
You think it's only fair to do the same
to me when you're not home
I think it's time to make this something that is
more than only fair

So if you call, I will answer
and if you fall, I'll pick you up
and if you court this disaster
I'll point you home.

But I'm warning you, don't ever do
those crazy, messed up things that you do
If you ever do
I promise you I'll be the first to crucity you
Now it's time to prove that you've come back
here to rebuild.

I saw them play once yeas ago before they were famous at Wetlands with a crowd of maybe 50 people.

My fave song is "Life in a Nutshell" but I don't like the stuff they've done since they hit it big.

I agree Glam

That is the best song of theirs that I have heard, too. It is very catchy.

Couldn't remember the name.

Yeah, they're absolute dorks. They put on a pretty good show, too. But I'll agree, their old stuff is much better than the new. Maroon (newest album, I believe) is quite lacking.

Life, in A Nutshell
Words & Music by Steven Page & Ed Robertson

When she was three
Her barbies always did it on the first date
Now she's with me,
There's never any need for them to demonstrate
She's like a baby, I'm like a cat;
When we are happy, we both get fat and still
it's never enough, it's never enough,
it's never enough

Chorus:
But I don't tend to worry about the things that other people say,
And I'm learning that I wouldn't want it any other way
Call me crazy, but it really doesn't matter
All that matters to me is she

Her life, in a nutshell
No way would she want it to change me
it's not that easy 'cause
My time is often decided for me
For me

She memorized every pencil crayon colour in the box
Her blue-green eyes complement the burn sienna in her locks
She's at the movies, I'm on the phone;
When we're separated, we're never alone, but still
it's never enough, it's never enough,
No it's never enough

Chorus

I fell down
With no one there to catch me from falling
Then she came 'round
And only her tenderness stopped me from bawling my eyes out
I'm OK
And that's why
Her life, in a nutshell ...

I like them too, they cheer me up with their goofy selves

I like McDonalds Girl, but won't post the lyrics

This is my favorite BNL song. Doesn't fit my current mood, but if we're talking good songs of theirs, this is up there.

The Old Apartment
Words & Music by Steven Page & Ed Robertson

Broke into the old apartment
This is where we used to live
Broken glass, broke and hungry
broken hearts and broken bones
This is where we used to live

Why did you paint the walls?
Why did you clean the floor?
Why did you plaster over the hole I punched in the door?
This is where we used to live

Why did you keep the mousetrap?
Why did you keep the dishrack?
these things used to be mine
I guess they still are, I want them back

Broke into the old apartment
Forty-two stairs from the street
Crooked landing, crooked landlord
Narrow laneway filled with crooks.
This is where we used to live.

Why did they pave the lawn?
why did they change the locks?
Why did I have to break it, I only came here to talk
This is where we used to live

How is the neighbor downstairs?
How is her temper this year?
I turned up your TV and stomped on the floor just for fun
I know we don't live here anymore
We bought an old house on the Danforth
She loves me and her body keeps me warm
I'm happy here
But this is where we used to live

Broke into the old apartment
Tore the phone out of the wall
Only memories, fading memories
Blending into dull tableaux

I want them back
I want them back

They are okay ... but they only have 1 or 3 songs which really catch my attention... the rest are not very good.

Yeah, the band's cool, I guess.

"If I Had $1000000"
Barenaked Ladies
Gordon

If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you a house
(I would buy you a house)
If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you furniture for your house
(Maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman)
If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you a K-Car
(A nice Reliant automobile)
If I had a million dollars
I'd buy your love

If I had a million dollars
I'd build a tree fort in our yard
If I had a million dollars
You could help, it wouldn't be that hard
If I had a million dollars
Maybe we could put a refrigerator in there
(Wouldn't that be fabulous?)

If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you a fur coat
(But not a real fur coat, that's cruel)
If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you an exotic pet
(Like a llama or an emu)
If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you John Merrick's remains
(Ooh, all them crazy elephant bones)
If I had a million dollars
I'd buy your love

If I had a million dollars
We wouldn't have to walk to the store
If I had a million dollars
We'd take a limousine 'cause it costs more
If I had a million dollars
We wouldn't have to eat Kraft Dinner
(Of course we would, we'd just eat more
And buy really expensive ketchup with it
The finest . . . dijon ketchups!
Mmmm!)

If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you a green dress
(but not a real green dress, that's cruel)
If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you some art
(a Picasso or a Garfunkel)
If I had a million dollars
(If I had a million dollars)
I'd buy you a monkey
(haven't you always wanted a monkey?)

If I had a million dollars
If I had a million dollars
If I had a million dollars
If I had a million dollars . . . . . .

I'd be rich.

BNL are great...I really enjoy them.

Took the whole family to one of their outdoor concerts. They were excellent, "dorks with guitars" or not.

I guess my favorite BNL song would probably be Grade Nine. It cracks me up, and brings back memories.

I like 'em! A lot. I like people who don't take themselves too seriously. These guys don't.

And I bet they don't give a rat's ass if people think they're dorks, so there!

:p
