I looked him in the face, and he looked away

So today, in a crosswalk, I locked eyes with the man that tortured, raped, and tried to kill me 7 years ago. This time, he recognized me... he was startled, and paused... and as my eyes did not waver from his, he looked away and quickened his pace, to get past me.

Good for you Jade. Getting past the "past" and then staring it in the eye makes you stronger, and him weaker.

{{{Hugs}}}:rose:

Good for you ! That must have taken a lot of guts. How did you feel after he passed ?

I felt a little shaky, but happy and proud of myself.

I had a guy break in my house a couple years ago and threaten my life. It was nerve wracking to the point I sold my house and moved away for over a year. I never saw him again thank Goddess.
You should be proud of yourself. What you did took a lot of courage. :rose:

People often wonder what the definition of courage is.

I would be hard-pressed to think of something else I've seen or heard of recently that could qualify over this.

In the military, it is obligatory to salute Officers and Warrant-Officers by lesser-ranking service members.
Little-known fact: It's actually permissable for anyone deemed worthy of such respect by the individual saluting.

You'd get a crisp one.:rose:

...

I agree. Be very proud at how strong you are. You have my admiration.

I had no idea you had been through that. Wow. Let me guess, he's not in jail because he only got 24 months or something like that.

And then, of course, their's the assholes who get away because of some stupid law. (You know, like the one that says that a woman has to press charges for abuse, so if she'd dead he skates.)

*hugs* for Jade.

He's not in jail because I was a drunk girl living in a dorm, and it was a party night. The eye-witness accounts of the people who broke in my door to save me, and the evidence present didn't matter....

so my dormmates beat him to a pulp, and he's free.

I've seen him three times since- the first two, I couldn't look at him. I just kept my eyes low and he didn't recognize me.

This time, I saw him coming from across the street, and kept going, head up.

Thank you to all of you who shared support... I'm still feeling proud about it.

You're a better person than me. I do believe I'd have hunted the fucker down and given him an up close and personal encounter with a 12-gauge. And if I hadn't the stomach for it, my father would have. And nobody would've ever found him again, either. Redneck justice.

I'm glad you were able to do what you did, though. :rose:

That showed tremendous courage Jade. :rose:

I believe that the universe will give him his... when it happened... clinging to divine equilibrium was one of the ways I dealt with it... it's one of my survival tools... the belief that karma will dole out more than I ever could.

I have no desire to dirty my hands or my soul on him... nor for my family to do the same.

My brother once asked me who he was and where he could be found... if I'd known and given the information, he would be dead.
