No, not like that ;)

I'm trying to quit smoking.

You see, I link stress to smoking...
Pleasure to smoking...
Smoking to her...

She's a stressful pleasure.

Stressful because I'll never get over her...
Pleasure because I still enjoy her company...

But I'm trying very hard to ween myself of her...
And, in a symbolic and healthful gesture...
I'm quitting smoking.

One way I'm doing that, is I've contacted the American Cancer Society...and I'm going through their "help you quit smoking" stuff.

I'll never be able to not have her in my life, in some manner...
I've accepted this.

But, like I'm weening myself from cigarettes...
I'm weening myself from needing her...
Craving her...

It's actually been much longer than 36 hours since I've talked to her, and I haven't been to see her since the 4th.

I think I'm doing well.

And I think some of you care, and I need an outlet for all of this...
I think this is the best place for it.

Thank you all for your encouragement, it means alot to me.

Congrats on your efforts. I know how hard it is.

Congratulations. F did kick the smoking habit, but then when he was sent to Bulgaria for work, it all came undone after being smoke free for a couple of years. He is now back off them, doing it cold turkey again, and it has been about a week.

Good job! I quit smoking 4 yrs ago. You will kick it, just take it one moment at a time. If you get through one craving, you can work your way through the next as well.

I used to tell myself things such as : The problem will be still be sitting there, waiting at the end of the cigarette.
or
In this moment, there is no stress. There is no need, there is only calm, there is only me. (that helped me a lot)

Good luck, and yes we do care.

Take care.

Good luck! :)

I don't really say that I've quit, completely. But I don't smoke every day, obsessively, now. I don't have those moments where I -need- them. (Much.)

Some weekends, now, I'll just buy a pack for the weekend. Like if I know I'll be going out to a bar or an event or something. They're sort of a treat, as I really do enjoy my cloves, and I have a friend helping me moderate that I don't let it get out of control.

In short, instead of having 3 or 4 packs a week, I'm down to 3 or 4 packs a month, if that. Not bad! :)

YESSS...see...that's the thing.
I love...
-love-
My clove cigarettes.

But, that was one thing the lady from the ACS ("phone counselor" with a really hot voice...mmm...anyway...heh) said not to fall into, letting smoking become a "treat or reward" because that would make me want to continue.

I still maintain that I could stone cold stop if I wanted to (but I don't want to...so am I addicted? heh, who knows?)

But anyway, thank you all for the encouragement.

Way back when, I quit smoking cigs but I went from a $2 a day habit to a $20 a day habit. That didnt work either. When you decide to quit completely, the power you will feel over the cigs is a real rush. Everytime you overcome an impulse you will get such a rush of power over yourself it will be worth it. The first 6 months are a bitch , then it gets fun. I remember laughing at the urges and saying to myself, "fuck you Im in control, not you"

I get teased when the store is out of Specials and I have to buy Blacks instead... nobody really cares when they're brown, but black ones when I'm wearing black... they always ask if I bought them to match my outfit. With that condecending little look.

God, I hate that.

Those are yummy, tho. :D

Hey whats wrong with that or this for that matter..........smiles. My Mom used to match them to her dresses for partys. Heh she didn't even really smoke. Like mom like daughter a few years in my early 20's. She was soooooooooo cute......I miss her.

Best of luck LNE you can do it.........come here and rant at us if you need to :rose:

*hugs* it sounds like you are doing better now :) and i'm glad dude. each day it will get easier :)

good luck with quitting the ciggies. i found popping a pen (without the ink bit, of course) in your mouth and pretending to smoke it to try and numb the craving a little. i think nicorette actually have a little inhaler thing that you suck on and it gives you that little hit of nicotine. but i wouldn't recommend the chewing gum *shudders* it gave me the worst stomach upset.

be strong lNE, tho it counds like you're a strrong person already :)

What kind of store? The tobacconist keeps a carton for me in reserve to pick up every other week. If i come in early he writes off the sales tax.

Smoking increases the risk of erectile dysfunction by around 50% for men in their 30s and 40s.

nuff said. I'm glad I quit when I was 19 or so.

It's a drug. As far as I'm concerned, the fields can be sprayed with Paraquat and the tobacco executives executed.

But on the positive side, it does bring in a lot of tax dollars and cuts 7 years or more out of a person's social security.

I dont envy you man. I have never had anyone tell me that quitting was easy.

Emotional Freedom Therapy is very effective in helping you give up.

Works on the meridian lines in your body, like acupuncture but without needles, helps with lots of addictions, fear and phobias.

Good luck with it LNE
