I don't need help....unless there is some sort of online group.... where I can surf Lit at the same time.

I answered no because my "addiction" doesn't negatively impact my home or work life.

So 4 people voted no...and 1 voted yes...but no one is willing to answer why?

I didn't answer cuz I still can't vote on polls from my puter.

Dammit.

This is my answer also.

Nothing is neglected because of my time online. I don't even think I'm addicted. I can go days without accessing Lit or any of my email accounts.

Lit helps me pass time when my work is done. I'm not a tv watcher.. and I read books between reading threads.

Ooh, that's a neat point, Freaky! When I first became computer-addicted, my parents were being bitchy about it. Mainly because I only had one phone line and they couldn't get through whenever they felt I should be available to them.

So I sat them down and pointed out to them that I spend roughly the same amount of time online as they do sitting there watching tv. I don't eat at the computer (unlike their snacking while watching the tube), I learn stuff (well...here maybe not stuff I'd share with them! lol!) and I interact with other humans. You can't really say that about watching 8 hours of sitcoms and taped soap operas each night.

They stopped bitching after that. =) Mostly.

I don't do chat rooms.. they move constantly.

Here at Lit.. I can post something and go back in two days and read what was said.

I don't have to just sit and read Lit if I want to know what is going on.

Tv is mindless entertainment.. the net isn't. I've learned more from the net than I ever did from tv.

Lit isn't the only window I have open either.

Right now.. I'm also playing with online bubble wrap. :D

Oh, and the other sign that you don't need professional help is that you're not hiding what you do every time someone walks in the room.

I've sat in chats (not Lit) with my mom (rolls eyes again) sitting next to me talking with my 'Net friends. I don't hide Lit from my hubby (he's just not curious enough to come look at the screen! LOL). And I don't pretend I'm not a 'Net addict at work. Heck, I call my coworkers over to laugh at things I see posted here and elsewhere (no, i don't show 'em the dirty stuff and I keep all pics hidden when I come here from work.)

After Mr Freaky gets home from work.. he watches me post at Lit.

He loves Lit.. just not enough though to join (Which is fine with me)

there is no gray area with Mr Freaky and I

it's black and white... show up on our door step with intentions other than friendship.. leave in a body bag.

pretty simple, huh? ;)

my own rule here: I do not cyber or have phone sex.. to me.. that is cheating.

Considering that I walk 3 of my kids to school every morning (1 1/2 miles each way), keep my youngest daughter entertained (a job in itself), clean 1/2 of my house a day, edit photos of my kids/family/wife, make 3 meals a day, do 2 loads of laundry a day, pick my kids up at school, help my kids with their homework, take my kids out to the park (daily), I think I'm entitled to enjoying the internet between each of these.

Addictive? Sure. Affect my real life? No, not really.

My dad once commented that the internet was a waste of time, as are video/computer games. Yet I've never seen him without a book, or not in front of the TV. When I asked him the difference between his spending all his time with TV and books and my surfing the internet, he was without an answer. We all have hobbies, and for some of us here, Lit and the internet appears to be that hobby.
