I know one of you scoring gurus can answer this for me...

If I have a story with 62 votes and it's a perfect 5, does that actually mean every one of those votes was a 5? Or could there have been some 4's or maybe even a couple 3's mixed in, but just not enough to change the score?

I think there have to be enough 5s in there for the rating to be at least a 4.996. I don't think that allows for any single vote of 62 that is below a 5. (One 4 vote in there, and the rating should be 4.98.)

(If you have such a story, I don't suggesting pointing to it on the forum. That rating will be "fixed" quickly.)

They have to be all 5s. Even with 99 5s and one 4, you have an even 4.99 that won't round up.

As soon as it hits the toplist ( or some dickhead sees this thread ) you won't have much trouble figuring out that the next vote is a 1 or 2 :p

Way back when, I used to purposely 4 bomb my own stories if they hit 9 votes of 5. A perfect 5 showing up in the toplists is an automatic troll onslaught waiting to happen. 4.90 was far enough off the radar that it wouldn't get bombed out of pure spite, keeping the scores coming more from readers than people scanning the toplists for targets.

Yeah, having that happen was a bit of a shock. Watched the score of a highly rated chapter of my story drop from 4.89 until it got knocked completely off the Top Lists. Granted, I had no idea it was even on there until it came up on a Google search, but that was kind of disappointing that people feel the need to do that. Such is life, even this small corner of it, I guess.

?

Wait, why would someone waste time trying to lower the rating on someone's story? That seems strange...

Yes, those would be strange people. There seem to be quite a few of them wandering around Literotica though. (Sort of like asking why the earth's rotation happens.)

I have identified at least five types.

1. Authors jealous of other authors' scores.

2. Fans of certain authors jealous of other authors' scores.

3. Trolls who despise certain categories.

4. Trolls who despise certain actions described in some stories.

5. Trolls who despise everyone and everything.

I would say 3&4 go kind of hand in hand and are the most common.

I think number 2 is next going by what I've seen happen on the all time top lists, whenever a new story supplants one that has been #1 in awhile.

No, that's the #1 excuse of writers who have low scores, to try to justify their low scores.

Isn't that always BFW's complaint that despite being the best writer here, the harassers are always out to belittle him.

How the ego deludes.

Speak of the harassers, and they appear. BFW was correct. His ratings were trolled to oblivion--almost overnight. I saw and it noted it at the time.

As long as I'm way up the "favorite author's" list from either of you two, I won't have any doubts that my ratings too are brutalized by you harassers of the wall to wall red Hs (but, no Green Es. Hmmm.) BFW too is way up the favorite author list on either of you two.

You two obviously cheated your ratings. Lovecraft even tried to cheat the last contest. And the fact that you keep your red Hs only means that I don't troll your stories like you and others do mine--because I certainly could erase those if I decided to play that game.

And anyone who would doubt that you two troll me need only read in on the forum.

Now you go to libel to pursue your argument of total superiority. I have never voted on any of your (very) short stories and would appreciate an apology for your unjustified smear.

The site 'E' is at best arbitrary, at worst payback for lickspittles. I make no judgements. BFW blamed hidden cabals for thwarting him. You seem to be echoing the paranoia.

I would think you should be up on me in the authors list, you've been writing here 6 years to my 2.

Taking that into consideration and looking at it proportionately I'm not that far behind you and would already be well past you if I didn't spend most of my first year here working on one series.

10 stroke mother/son stories would put me past you easily.

And busting your lame ass here does not mean anyone trolls you. Your work here blows. At least that is what your scores indicate. One troll vote from me would not explain all your 4.2 and less stories. And if the system sees one bombs down the line from the same user it usually cans them in the sweeps.

and again, as anyone with basic knowledge of this site knows a green E means one person likes your story.

W's, which you have none of, mean many liked your story as do H's. So I'm glad you're a teachers pet, but the majority of readers here spanning the last 6 years seem to find your work Meh.

And you wouldn't know if anyone's H's are justified or not, because your holy ass would never dare lower yourself to read anyone's work here. You're too busy yapping about you.

And speaking of you, don't think I don't know that it was you as well as Scouries involved in that contest.

You would have had to eat way to much crow if I ever won a contest.

But that's okay, because going by what I can track through some web sites, my amazon work is doing much better than yours.

Oh, and by the way. Good luck finding my amazon page. I have 2 pen names that I am smart enough to never mention here.

Because last time I ragged on your amazon sales I coincidentally got 2 horrendous reviews on 2 of my books there.

So bad and done so close together, I managed to get one removed. Then I just closed the account to avoid literotica assassins like you.

No, I'll take that word back, you're not cool enough for that. I like Elfin's "Lickspittles" better.

No, BFW pissed off and on several people with very large fan bases and of course his so call friend helped a little also when they split the blanket after BFW belittled a certain super ego.

He just pissed off the wrong people and the fans took the revenge. It ain't the first time it has happened and it probable won't be the last.

Just curious, how do you get a green E anyway?

It says it's an editor award, but a lot of SR's stories that I read are full of typos and grammar errors.

Well, there you go, Ember. This thread tells you all you need to know about that.

There are folks here who get off on ganging up on and harassing others. I think it's largely a sense of inferiority that motivates them.

The yellow E's () denote "Editor's Choice" stories. These are pieces that we really like - just our opinion.

Here's the link that explains the colored icons.
