I know it's been done before, but...

Sounds a little like Hitchcock meets that Waller guy who wrote "Bridges of Madison County." :D

It's all in how you execute it, and judging from the quality of your other stories, I'm sure you can carry it off. :rose:

Go for it stranger, no one cares (well, at least *I* don't care) if it's been done before...

Are you telling us that secretly you're going to kill YOUR dick of a husband, and come live with me?? =)

Been done before

I agree, you can pull it off if anyone can.

Seems like trick will be not to telegraph your twist at the end. Throw out some red herrings, make the lover seem perfectly single and available.

You need a good reason why she can't divorce her husband. Pre-nup comes to mind. Maybe you can come up with something more creative.

Have a good time writing this one.

What if, instead of killing him, she finally just gathers enough courage to LEAVE him. That's a big deal for some women. She leaves him this really nasty message about how much she hates him, and goes to meet her dream-man. When she gets there and he rejects her, she finds out she's pregnant, and doesn't know whether she ought to crawl back to her abusive (if not phsyically abusive, mentally abusive) husband, or try to make it on her own. It still has the irony.

Been done before

When did the husband get abusive, mental or otherwise? Thought he was out busting ass to provide for her.

You've got the first three quarters of the story, pretty. See how it plays out when you write it. Surprise everyone with the ending. I'll bet you see the direction it has to go unconciously.

He doesn't have to actually BE abusive, but she could be a passive-agressive type who is always thinking he's abusive

"stop yelling at me! What did I do wrong?"
"Baby, you didn't do anything wrong, stop freaking out."
"Oh, so I'm freaking out, now?!"

I think your story is going to turn out great the idea of insurance has merit but as always Chick has it bang to rights.

Just a twist that has not been suggested is instead of killing him off have him incarcerated in some way. Ok not original but it’s an idea.

Okay, I'm sure this has been done before, so don't tell me that. I am imagining a few twists on it, so tell me what you think.
There is this young married woman, let's just say in her 20's, who's husband works a lot. He is a very good provider, giving her anything she could ever want, but leaving her at home with a lot of time on her hands.
So, one day she is surfing around on the internet and she stumbles into this chat room where she meets this guy. Instantly she feels chemistry. Chemistry like she has never felt. She tells herself she is crazy, but she keeps talking to him. Every day while her husband works late, entertains clients for dinner and what ever else he does in order to be able to give her the world, she sits at home and talks to this guy.
Before long it has become much more than a casual thing, and they are getting really serious.
The thing is, she has never told him she was married. She told him that she had a male roommate (must be someway to explain it when a male voice calls from downstairs and she has to get off the phone), but not that it was her husband.
As their relationship progresses, her husband is called away on business for a week or two. Out of the country for something.
While he is gone, she decides it is her chance to meet this man she has spent so much time with.
There is huge chemistry. He comes to her house, but can only stay a couple of days, he says he has to get back for work. So they have two or three fabulous days, and he goes back home.
When her husband gets home, she can barely stand him. She has totally fallen in love with another man, but she is scared to leave because she doesn't want to lose all the money and everything.
So she decides to kill him. Haven't worked out how yet, but she would put a lot of thought into it and come up with something she is positive she won't get caught for.
Well, she does it, and then she decides to tell her new lover that she is ready to take things to the next level.
They live in different cities, and she knows where he works, so she hops on a plane and goes there (after the funeral she tells her friends she is going to stay with family to grieve) to surprise him.
Well, he is really surprised, because he is married, too. And he isn't about to leave his wife, he was just having an affair with this woman he had met in a chat room.

What do you guys think?
