I just wanted to say

What if this woman doesn't make any special trips to out of the way places. How about the guy in the office who walks her to her car and always finds a way to park near her in the parking garage? Does every story idea posted here need to be original? Are all the story ideas posted here original? I gave a few adventures the woman could have. Did you not see that, or was you too busy figuring out ways to mock it?

Gotta dip your toes in the water at some point. ;) If you think that one would be too difficult, and you're serious about writing for this site, try something you already know/have done! The best writings come from experience and/or a personal interest compared to not knowing/liking a topic at all!

I was merely trying to get this thread "back" on track, if there could be such a thing, by seeing if any authors had ideas on how to make a story more unique. After all, it would be plagiarism to write someone else's story word for word. :rolleyes: I guess that answers your question about "ideas being original".

Who wants to read the same old boring shit anyway? :rolleyes:

That's a really good question, Pat. Frankly, there are very few truely original ideas on Lit or in real life, for that matter. However, the handling of each idea by each writer is very original because every writer is an individual with their own background, command of the language, fears and outlook on the world.

Suppose the story idea is set as a couple take a weekend in the city. The directions this might go are:

1. Weekend tryst in a grand hotel.
2. One partner gets lost and has a tryst with some third person.
3. Unknown to her, he is a rapist and murderer.
4. Both of them are kidnapped by pervert aliens.

and so on.

The originality comes, not from the idea, but from the writer's understanding of the idea and his/her concept of the story.

I agree, I have read a few stories along very similar lines, but they are still different. "Original" is used loosely.
