Don't make us guess - what was the comment?Thank you, Google! Or I would have no idea what it meant.
Just to be clear, the story wasn't written in Finnish, was it? 'Cause that would make a lot more sense.
I'm actually oddly jealous. I think I've had comments from most of the English speaking world, but I've never gotten one in a foreign language. Hrmm... Maybe that first one. I'm going to say "congratulations!" and hope I have the same weird fortune someday.
I've occasionally thought about translated versions of stories to put up here on Lit - the question of which languages to choose is always there, of course. My quick look at the various on-line translators suggests you could come up with a vaguely competent first pass pretty quickly, which could be passed on to a native speaker to get colloquialisms right.I did get a request from here a couple of years ago for permission for someone to translate a few of my stories into German and put them on a German-language Web site--including my author name. That was a bit kicky, and I agreed.

Sorry - I didn't see that someone had replied to this.Don't make us guess - what was the comment?

Ogg did one of his into French not so long ago, but he didn't report back.
Maybe he'd do better into Japan - he mentioned in the "What's a View?" that he's had stories appear on various "niche" web sites there.
Chloé, Google ne te permettrait jamais d'avoir l'air stupide. Je suis sûr que vos morceaux seront bien. Très savoureux, j'en suis sûr. Hmmm, bits pourrait être le mauvais mot...Well my Halloween story is set on a Caribbean island where they speak French and I'm using google translate for a few French phrases and sentences. Hopefully simple enough that google doesn't make me look like an idiot.

I'm Finnish......
If I had asked for a comment in Finnish, it wouldn't have been special to get one. And it was only special because I found out it was Finnish and roughly what the words meant. If I hadn't gotten the translation, I would have deleted it.Anyone wants comments in Latvian?
That made me smile.Congratulations! Now you can officially say a reader truly FINNISHED your story!![]()

So surprise an author with a Latvian comment, but make sure that it's something they can get translated.
